Depth finder. Essential in rocky Winnepausakee... I hear that sound in my sleep.
Just fishing.... Sonar to warn you about shallow water and keep you from ruining prop or worse.
You can elevate your prop usually with a little up/down button on your throttle
That piezo beep can be wired into a lot of things .... was wondering if it would marry up with your experience (happened near shore)
Edit: I got my boating license by taking an online test.
I'm pretty sure the boats you rent at Lake Mead are Jet Drive and not prop. The main reason I do not think this was depth finder beep was because unless Druff was hugging the shore line, most of which is mountain/rocky terrain, the majority of the lake once out of the marina is 100+ feet.
The beep or whistle is used to alert for a variety of different reasons, so pinpointing exactly what it was is difficult. My guess would be the engine was overheating at high speeds. This could easily happen with scarce maintenance. If the impeller isn't changed out regularly on my boat it will overheat every time. Not exactly familiar with the mechanics of a jet drive, but I could easily see overheating as the issue. Sounds like it was definitely a mechanical issue since he wasn't given an explanation what it was when they chopped off $50.
Also, maybe they have a speed limit the boats aren't supposed to go past for insurance reasons or whatever, and put that beep on there to discourage people from hitting those speeds.
Impeller. Makes sense. No one gets cut up from prop. Druff runs over his friends who jump overboard for swim. That shit happens.
Bought 3 Bombardier GTX jet skis a few years ago. They are older 2000-2006.
They beep all the time too. Every time you plug in your safety lanyard they beep twice.
They inject oil from separate reservoir and when that gets low it beeps.
But generally when they get fucked up you hear the beep and hope you can get home. They are a complete mystery to me troubleshooting and you cannot afford to guess wrong or you will get stranded in the middle of nowhere and you ain't walking home as you would with a dirt bike.
Just bring em to boat yard and hand over your wallet.
Was just rereading the post above and I started thinking about the best part of boating.
Getting gas at the marinas. Marina gas is usually a buck more than at the automobile pumps. But worth it!
The marinas at Winapausakee always have beautiful high school girls & coeds. Tan from spending the day in the sun.
No one pulls their boat in properly and they manuver your boat into the right position with their feet as they sit on the dock - long legs Hose in hand..... I wish I had pics. I need to fix that.
I intentionally pull in with my gas cap on the wrong side of the jet ski.
Gotta go wake up the wife.
