Devils advocate here for a minute when the USA puts your ass on economic lockdown it's hard to get funding, USD the world reserve currency and all of that.

The economics being a part of the tightrope we have been walking for so long (and when I say we I do mean China and USA). Gun to head China probably isn't a big fan of DPNK either but they ain't crazy enough to fuck with a nuclear power. China is, in part, OK with the US trying to bring the DPNK to heel but they could never allow them to have a civil war either.

If Aruba got the Bomb and Venezuela wasn't happy about it I bet the US would secretly support Venezuela doing what it can to limit Arubas dominance of the area..... but we aren't going to let WW3 breakout in our hemisphere either.

Truthfully we could have Winston Churchill in charge of figuring out North Korea/China and I don't think you could be comfortable with it. This is some tricky shit here.

Russia wants a pipeline through both Koreas, and they have been a source of significant grey revenue for DPRK for some time. This deal could, theoretically, facilitate access for them.

Trump as irrational actor combined with the money drying up feels right. To Trump’s credit, the latest round of sanctions, iirc, were the harshest. Really curious to see if it holds. Huge win if it holds.

If they were smart they kept it sterile. But it could have been done via human although that's much tougher.
