Martinez/Cotto tonight. Like Sergio -205 straight. If the knee holds up his size will be too much.
Small stab at the ITD +280, too.
Vasquez jr -160 for the undercard.
Tonalist in Belmont.

Tonalist was an excellent call. I made almost a grand on the Belmont betting him to win and the Tonalist-Commissioner exacta. What a faggot Steve Coburn is. I'm glad his horse got beat.
Martinez is obviously done. Shame about the knee. Cotto will not beat Canelo if he fights him or certainly GGG, who I cannot believe they would fight. In fact, I wouldn't take Cotto against any top middleweight. Still, big win for a great fighter and cool guy. I was actually at the fights, which was pretty awesome. First time at a live fight in years and first-ever really big fight. The Garden was pretty "electric" during the main event, that's for sure. Very disappointing fight as far as I'm concerned, though. Real let-down.
I was pretty happy that he lost, too, after that asshole went on his rant. Knee jerk reaction, but he's gotta be smarter than that.
Cotto at MSG is up there as one of the best atmospheres in the sport. I bet it was pretty bad ass. Very cool that you got to be there.
Basically the exact opposite of what I thought would happen, lol. Even knowing that the big question mark was Martinez knee, I still felt pretty confident that he wouldn't be in there if he weren't ready to go. Ah well. I like Cotto and he did what he needed to do.
I agree that he doesn't beat Canelo or GGG. I wouldn't mind seeing either, though. I want GGG to get his name out there. He needs a high profile fight. I don't think they'll be jumping to put Cotto in with GGG.
Wouldn't surprise me to see Cotto/Mayweather 2. Catch weight of like 156 or something.
I would like to see him fight Canelo, who would dominate him, but I would not like to see him fight GGG, because I wouldn't want to see Cotto die. The only fights that really make any sense for him at this point are Mayweather, Pacquiao and Canelo, and only the Canelo fight seems likely. Mayweather is possible, I guess, but weight difference between Cotto and Pac would probly make that fight impossible.
Hex, you have anything on this Lomachenko/Russell Jr. fight?
I bet Russell Jr at +155. Having watched both Loma's pro fights, I'm just having a hard time figuring out how his style is going to translate from the AM's to the Pro's. Probably in large part due to the fact that they've got him in world title fights, 2 fights into his pro career. Russell Jr has sick, sick hand speed. And brittle, brittle hands, lol. I do think he looks incredibly skilled, though. Albeit against very limited opposition.
Also curious if you have an opinion on Gamboa/Crawford. I think Crawford can out box Gamboa, but he's a 2/1 favorite, and I don't wanna lay it. I figure he's probably closer to like -130ish, but Gamboa is off a long layoff.
These are like the two most interesting fights of the year for me - real fight-fan fights, no doubt. Both are very hard to pick, obv especially Russell-Lomachenko. I was pretty shocked that either fight was made - when I heard that they were mandatories, I assumed neither would actually happen.
If I have to pick a winner of tonight's fight, I would take Russell, though it's really just a guess. At +155 he's clearly the better bet, but it's very hard to have any confidence in a guy who never fought anyone, even if he has about the best hand speed I've ever seen. It's pretty amazing to me that Russell's people would think he should fight a guy like Lomachenko before he ever fought anyone decent, and it's pretty amazing to me that Lomachenko's people think it's a good idea to throw their guy in with a freak of nature like Russell in his third pro fight coming off a loss to Orlando Salido. I thought Lomachenko deserved a draw in that fight, however, and that he fought very well considering the circumstances, especially in the second half of the fight. Bottom line is that this is about as hard a fight to call as you can find, and I can't wait to see it. Either way, though, you're betting the right side.
You have to pick Terrence Crawford against Gamboa - he's apparently the best lightweight in the world, although that means very little at the moment. Crawford is my kind of fighter for sure, and it's pretty hard to be into Gamboa, especially at this point. He has seemingly regressed as a fighter, has been inactive and is also a drug cheat (allegedly). But he's also one of the fastest fighters in the world (remember a few years ago when Russell and Gamboa were the two best prospects in the sport, mostly due to their ridiculous speed?) and is undefeated, and it sure wouldn't be a shock to see him beat Crawford. However, Crawford should obviously be favored, though minus 200 seems too much. At those odds, I would take Gamboa, but I feel way better betting Russell as a dog than Gamboa. As in the Russell fight, I don't really understand why Gamboa's people would think it was smart to suddenly throw him in with a guy like Crawford at this point. There's no doubt that Crawford is better prepared for a challenge like this at this stage of his career (he's been active, for one thing), and I think he'll find a way to win. I'll certainly be rooting for him.
Vasyl Lomachenko is no TBA, amirite? It's hard to imagine a worse-managed career than Gary Russell's. Lomachenko is gonna be a very good champion.
Man, his movement was spot on in that fight. It was really something to watch. Punch placement is a thing to beauty to watch, too. I doubt there's a Salido rematch, due to weight, but I could still see Salido beating him again, unless Loma does something about those periods of inactivity he seems to have, every other round.
I had Loma winning it clearly. I think 116-112. I had it closer than a lot of people because I'm just not going to award him a round for firing off combinations for 30 seconds of a 3 minute round.
Russell may actually be all flash/no substance. Sure, it looks pretty throwing those blazing fast punches, but when they - A) aren't landing. And B) have NOTHING behind them, they aren't going to do much good.
I believe Canelo will beat Lara. I think that his greater power and aggressiveness, better chin and underrated defense will be too much for Lara to handle. Canelo has never faced a boxer like Lara, but Lara has never been in the ring with someone like Canelo either. I admire Canelo for wanting to fight the best, but just like in the Trout fight I don't think his people would put him in the ring with this guy if they didn't feel he could beat him. I see Canelo taking control by mid-fight and possibly getting a late knockout. I would say the odds I've seen, with Lara at about +150, are pretty close to correct. Lara at that price or even slightly better is a fairly good bet, but def not a great one. Psyched about the fight. Shame about the undercard, as usual. The fight I'm looking forward to most other than the main event (the excellent Tomoki Kameda defending his bantamweight title) is on regular Showtime at 7:30, not even on the PPV, which is dumbazz.
You know how high I am on Lara. I think if he can fight at range, he can out box Canelo and win a decision. The problems I see for Canelo are that I don't believe he's going to be able to do his usual fighting in spurts and be successful. I think he needs to up his aggression, which will bring into play, his (lack of) stamina. However, I'm constantly reminded of the Lara/Angulo fight, and how often Lara ended up with his back to the ropes. Granted, Angulo had to walk through fire to get there, but when he got there, he did damage. If Canelo is able to close the distance, and pin Lara to the ropes/in the corner, he's going to land consistently, and he's going to knock Lara the fuck out. Also a concern, is how often Lara gets touched by the left hook. If he doesn't pick that hand up, and Canelo starts to land his left hook, Lara is in for a beating.
I like Lara at +190. If he's able to settle in, and box at range, I think he can bank several rounds while Canelo waits to get going. But then, a big issue is the judging. Canelo arguably lost every round to Mayweather, and still managed a draw on one of the cards. Lara beat the pants off Paul Williams, and was robbed for his effort.
Mauricio Herrera -140.
Francisco Vargas -120.
Vargas/Lopez "Won't Go Distance" -140.
laaame all i have is this Jul 12 24801 E LARA +185
7:00 PM 24802 S ALVAREZ -245
Jul 12 24803 OVER ROUNDS (LARA/ALVAREZ) o9½-330
7:00 PM 24804 UNDER ROUNDS (LARA/ALVAREZ) u9½+230
is it dumb to put a thousand on the over or do these nerds have the ability to knock each other out
Lara at +190 is quite good - I didn't know that price was available. You make good points as usual, but I still don't think Lara can do it. I really believe that despite Lara's great boxing skills, Canelo is a better fighter overall and for sure is more durable, which will likely be a big factor in this fight.
I really like the two Vargas bets. JuanMa is about to finally be done at this level - he's getting KO'd.
Yeah, that Lara bet isn't a comfortable one. I just think it's closer to a pick'em fight, so the +190 (5dimes) is where the value is. I worry about Lara's weaknesses, because they happen to play nicely into Canelo's strengths.
I think the line being so low on Vargas is an overreaction to his lack of opposition, and the overreaction to JuanMa knocking Ponce out.
LOL Boxing is sfrigged.
How do you have 115-113 each way then 117-111.
I would have liked to have seen the fight scored a draw - I didn't want to see either guy win or lose, really. I thought Canelo won by a couple of points, but Lara by a couple is also a reasonable score. Definitely a tough fight to score. Lara is a pure runner who could never have a following with his incredibly un-crowd-pleasing style (Rigondeaux is WAY more interesting to watch and clearly a better fighter), and both guys were relatively unimpressive to me. With Lara's style you have to throw way more punches than he was able to, and with all the chances Lara gave him by staying on the ropes and not punching, Canelo had no real idea what to do with him. Both guys needed to let their hands go a lot more than they did. As a result, it was a pretty ugly and fairly boring fight, other than the drama of the fact that it was theoretically the two best junior middles in the world in a close fight. I'm gonna go out on a limb right now and say that Demetrius Andrade is actually the best junior middle in the world and would beat either of these guys. I would love it if he could get that shot.
Great article about Mayweather.
The Trouble With Floyd Mayweather
http://deadspin.com/the-trouble-with.../+Uppercutting
Maybe after Mayweather beats Maidana for the second time, Oscar De La Hoya should come out of retirement and challenge Mayweather to a rematch. They'll make a killing.
:wtf
I read that. Hell of a fighter. Not so much in the human being department. But he's the only one under this kind of microscope. Most of these guys aren't upstanding citizens. Diego Corrales beat up women. But he's hailed as a saint because he died in a motorcycle wreck where his blood alcohol level was 3 times the legal limit. Arturo Gatti (Who I loved to watch) was known to beat up his wife from time to time. Manny Pacquiao cheats on his wife and knocks up his mistress. But they don't/didn't flaunt their arrogance in our faces and make people dislike them the way Mayweather does.
Gotta separate the fighter from the human. I don't get involved in too much of the outside the ring aspects of their lives, because there's a reason to dislike damn near all of them. I appreciate the skill, and the fact that there's no surer bet in sports, than Floyd Mayweather by decision.
Just saw GGG knock out geale. Pretty crazy. He ate a monster punch and then knocked geale out on the exchange. He said he wants cotto in the post fight interview. I imagine Cotto doesn't want any of this guy considering how much more money is to be made losing decisions to canelo or may weather an walking out if the ring under his own power.
GGG is a monster. He would dismantle Cotto. No one has ever beaten Geale up that way. Cotto would fight him without question. But Cotto's team is smarter than that. They'll make more money with less risk to fight Canelo.
Outside of Andre Ward, I don't know who can beat him. And that's not really even worth discussing because of the size difference. Ward isn't gonna move down. We don't know how well GGG would do moving up.

Floyd Mayweather calls out Manny Pacquiao, wants to fight in May

“Absolutely, I would love to fight Manny Pacquiao. We tried to make the fight happen years ago. We had problems with random blood and urine testing. Like I said I just want to be on an even playing field. Now he’s in a very, very tight situation — he lost to [Juan Manuel] Marquez, he’s lost to [Timothy] Bradley. Pay-per-view numbers are down… extremely low, so he’s desperate.”

Mayweather should just retire with his perfect record, go blow all his cash, beat the shit out of his girlfriends and go where most black men go...to jail.Quote:
At last the fight everyone wants to see. Floyd Mayweather has called out Manny Pacquiao to fight him on May 2 - but only if he receives a much bigger share of the purse.
"We are ready. Let's make it happen. May 2. Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao. Let's do it," he said in a Showtime interview broadcast from San Antonio.
Mayweather, unbeaten in 47 fights, calls himself TBE - The Best Ever - yet Pacquiao has been waiting to fight him for what seems an eternity. Behind the scenes, Showtime, who have given Mayweather a $250 million six-fight contract, have demanded that he put up or shut up.
Behind the scenes, influential Top Rank promoter Bob Arum revealed he has been in talks with leading executives from CBS, the owners of Showtime. Now it looks as if pressure is being applied for Mayweather to earn his corn.
A Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, on and off around the negotiating table, is estimated to be worth upwards of a quarter of a billion US dollars.
"I would love to fight Manny Pacquiao. We tried to make the fight happen years ago; we had problems with random blood and urine testing," Mayweather added. "I just want to be on an even playing field. Now he's in a very, very tight situation. He's lost to Marquez (the great Mexican), he lost to Bradley. Pay-per-view numbers are extremely low. He's desperate. I wanted that fight a long time ago. I'm just waiting on them.
"Of course, we have to make the fight happen on Showtime pay-per-view, because 'Showtime Championship Boxing' is No 1 and will remain No 1. I'm the man. I'm here to stay.

"Floyd Mayweather is not ducking or dodging any opponent. Bob Arum is stopping the fight. We have been trying to make this fight happen behind the scenes for years now, but the fans and the people have been fooled because they have been listening to people just on one side. Now it's time for us to talk. We want the fight.
http://larrybrownsports.com/wp-conte...ather-meme.jpg
"I know that he's not on my level. The fans would love to see the fight. And, of course, I want to go out with a bang."
Mayweather then made his clarion call. "So let's make this fight happen. Manny Pacquiao, Bob Arum, you guys have been ducking us for years.
"We're tired of you guys fooling the public, fooling the critics. You guys didn't want to take random blood and urine testing, so that's why it didn't happen. Then I offered you $40 million (£25m), then you didn't want to make the fight happen.
"You lost twice, now you coming back begging for the same money. That's not gonna happen. Let's make the fight happen for the people and the fans. Mayweather versus Pacquiao, May 2nd, Cinco de Mayweather."
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/...48_468x370.jpg
The problem here is that Floyd Mayweather wants all the money, $250 million for himself.
This fight will NEVER, EVER happen.
He knows he's not getting anywhere close to that number to fight Pacquiao. And if this fight still doesn't happen because he prices himself out, then it's impossible to defend.
It's a fucking shame that boxing has come to this. Where we can actually have the top two fighters in the world, fighting in the same weight class for 5 years, and not fight each other. It's embarrassing.
The first negotiations were on Arum. This is on Floyd. It's time to shut the fuck up and fight. You have 2 fights left. One of them HAS to be Pacquiao. I don't give a shit if he wants to beat up on Khan, or Thurman, or Garcia for one fight. But that other fight needs to be Manny.
In a perfect world, they'd just do 40/40 and 20 to the winner.
This might be true for diehard fans. But do not underestimate how big this would be.Quote:
Mayweather vs Pacquiao should have been made over 4 years ago, now most boxing fans don't give a shit.
Even tightwads on this site who stream * might even pony up for HD. Or have a shower then venture out into the wild and take it in at their nearest sports bar.
Yeah, people talk so much shit about how there's no point in the fight happening now, but it's still easily the biggest thing in boxing, and one of the biggest in sports. Even people that don't watch much boxing would be buying this fight. It'll break all PPV records with ease.
Both fighters are past their best, but I think Pacquiao may have a better chance now, than he did then. Pac's still beating guys up pretty seriously, and Mayweather is getting hit a lot more than he used to. It's still really interesting.
Pacquiao reportedly agrees to fight terms, now waiting on Mayweather
http://www.reviewjournal.com/sports/...ing-mayweather
Mayweather's counter-offer 10% or nothing. No way he gives Pacquiao 40% of the purse.Quote:
Manny Pacquiao has agreed to terms to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 2 at the MGM Grand Garden according to Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum.
However, the deal isn’t done and it awaits Mayweather signing off on the contract, which, if it comes to fruition, will likely set records in the sport for purses, live gate and pay-per-view buys.
Arum told Yahoo Sports on Tuesday that Pacquiao is willing to accept the shorter end of a 60-40 purse split and that the World Boxing Organization welterweight champion would agree to random Olympic-style drug testing, including blood draws, by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.
“I want to get some movement here, with bringing Mayweather to the table so we can go out and get everything signed and get the networks together and get the thing finished,” Arum told Yahoo Sports.
Last Friday, Arum told the Las Vegas Review-Journal and other media outlets he was not at liberty to discuss the ongoing negotiations between the two camps. However, the chairman of Top Rank had a change of heart. He initially talked to examiner.com and told that outlet that Pacquiao was on board with the terms for the fight. Pacquiao, a congressman from the Philippines whose boxing record is 57-5-2 with 38 knockouts, is flying to the United States today and plans to meet with Arum.
“The point is that I don’t want what happened the other times to happen again,” Arum said. “I want this fight to actually happen. I want everybody to make a lot of money on the fight. I want the public to be satisfied. And I think it will be a terrific event. That’s what I want, and I’ve done everything in my power to make that happen.
“I think Manny has been very reasonable and demonstrated that he wants the fight to happen. Now, we’re waiting on Floyd. That’s not to say that Floyd has been obstinate, that Floyd won’t do it, but we’re waiting on him.”
Attempts to reach Arum on Tuesday for further comment and clarification were unsuccessful.
The MGM has kept the May 2 date, which falls on Cinco de Mayo weekend, open for boxing. Mayweather (47-0, 26 KOs), the reigning welterweight and junior middleweight champion with the World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association, has fought on that date in years past. But Arum has also been trying to make a fight between Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez for May 2. However, he said he would be willing to move Cotto-Canelo to another date in order to get Mayweather to agree to fight Pacquiao.
The other key issue, pay-per-view television, is reportedly being worked out between Showtime, which has a deal with Mayweather, and HBO, which airs Pacquiao’s fights. In 2002, the two networks showed the heavyweight title fight between Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis.
“I’m not trying to force anybody’s hand, I’m just saying, ‘Hey, we’ve agreed to everything, period,’ ” Arum said. “The people we have talked to on Mayweather’s side have agreed to everything. Now we need Mayweather to step up and say, ‘Yeah, I’m on board. I agree.’
“I’m not going to put a deadline on there. I’m just going to hope that everybody does the right thing and we get this concluded. It would be really sad if we went through this stuff again like we did before.”
Instead Mayweather's going to make the fight everyone been waiting for...
Floyd Mayweather vs Justin Bieber.
May the one with the smallest penis win.

I'll believe that fight happens when they are stepping into the ring.
LA Times reporting that Floyd and Pacquiao have agreed to terms. HBO and Showtime are meeting today, to work out whatever Network details have to be worked out.
It's funny, the two things that were holding the fight up, were the quickest things settled. They agreed on drug testing and purse split pretty quickly.
Sadly, Floyd-Manny is still extremely unlikely. It looks now like the most likely fight for Floyd next is a rematch with Cotto.
In much more important news, Al Haymon is making NBC the new Showtime and is in the early stages of creating his own UFC of boxing (the "PBC"). He wants to be like Dana White, and he might be able to pull it off. And we have to root for him to be successful, because it would be good for everyone but his competitors (and possibly the fighters, depending on how they're paid). UFC fighters are notoriously underpaid and they have no say in who they fight, so the best fights get made. When Robert Guerrero fights Keith Thurman on NBC on March 7 (awesome fight), he will reportedly be paid $2.5 million, which is 2-3 times what he would get paid if that fight was on HBO or Showtime, so Haymon, at least at the beginning, is apparently trying to do this while still paying his fighters very well. He's putting on another great fight (Garcia-Peterson) on NBC in April, and he supposedly has plans to eventually have similar shows on CBS and Spike. And he's doing it with time buys, where he just pays the networks for the time. He's apparently got lots of outside investors, but at this point all of this is clearly a money-losing proposition - it's all part of a much bigger, long-term, mysterious plan. Will be fascinating to see how it all plays out. Will also determine the future of the sport. Al Haymon is trying to become the most powerful man ever in boxing, and it seems like it could actually happen.
I must say I was impressed with Deontay Wilder last night fighting 8 more rounds then he ever had to in his career and not fading a ton until the last few which is no different then most heavyweights. He came in lean and fought a very disciplined fight while Stiverne was banking on Wilder making a mistake.
I think Stiverne thought Wilder would gas. I was starting to think he would, too. Stiverne did some good work to Wilder's body. Wilder had no idea how to protect his body. His hands constantly went up to protect his head, but he never tucked in to cover the body.
Wilder has come a looooooooooooooooooooong way from what he once was. His footwork is still pretty bad, but he answered a lot of questions people had about him, in this fight. He went all 12 pretty easily. He took several BIG shots from Stiverne. And he boxed going backwards. I mean boxed. Not just tried to land the right hand. He still gets wild at times when he's got his man hurt, but he did a good job of not punching himself out and leaving nothing for the later rounds.
Stiverne has got a fantastic chin on him.
I think Wilder beats Tyson Fury for sure. He's not ready for Klitschko.
