On the topic of Trump supporters, I think most of us can agree in a rationale world he should be viewed as a horrible president who never should have been elected and no-one should be supporting. What I find fascinating at the sociological level is how he still has so much support. I know the easy route is just to say, well all those people supporting him are just racist deplorable assholes that are worse human beings than the rest of us, but I just don't see that as being accurate.
For good or bad, I think most humans are basically the same at the group level. I don't think Trump voters/supporters (at the group level) are any more terrible than any other group. I think instead what happened is that our society had a set of factors come together at once (Fox News, political correctness, corruption in the Swamp, decline in productivity, wealth being disproportionately siphoned to the rich, etc.) that created this perfect incubator where a demagogue like Trump could become, and to this day still be, popular among a huge swatch of the populace.
I am not trying to let off the Trump criminal crime syndicate, or its Godfather, by any means. I just don't think focusing solely on attacking him (and his supporters) is going to solve anything. I think we have to seriously identify and address the issues that got us here in the first place, and I don't think we are doing that at all.
Just my 2c.
In fairness, maybe I do argue more with the libtards on this site than the Trumpkins, giving the perception that is where my loyalties lie. That isn't necessarily the case. I don't argue with the Trumpkins because there is no point. I think there is some underlying pathology going on at the societal level that makes such people unreachable, so I don't really even try. I am more interested in trying to figure out the cause of the pathology and how we can move beyond it.
