I disagree, fair chance Conor could have fought Mayweather without the UFC approving.
Plenty of cash to keep the UFC onside and/or give him a weak title defense in the interim.

Is that what people are honestly saying or is this you? This can't be true. I go with gut only. The more I read the more I'm thrown off. But I will listen to you. Why on Earth would a fight between David and Goliath be more interesting after David already beat him. That makes no sense to me at all to me. Make it make sense.
Make it a good fight, make it look like Conor has a chance and then begin to dominate, take a punch on the chin in a late rounds when it looks like you have him. And I mean take it, eat it square so you don't fake your legs turning to jelly.
If I was scripting it!
If Conor beats him there's no rematch? SERIOUSLY?
If McGregor could have made this fight without the UFC's approval he would have and he would have made a lot more money. McGregor is under contract to the UFC. Floyd is 40 years old, McGregor will be fighting in the UFC this year. There won't be any trilogy fights. You should give up the conspiracy theory shit, it's not going to happen.
Everything I know about UFC contracts says the opposite.
Actually I should clarify; the UFC could effectively blacklist Conor from MMA if he didnt play ball. They cant legally compel him to fight but if he fights for another MMA org while he's under contract for more UFC fights, the UFC would go absolutely ham on him and the org attempting to hire him.
Whether or not that could extend to a boxing promotion, I'm not really sure, but if you dont think Dana's perfected the art of the predatory contract by now, you likely havent been paying attention.

I think it's a certainty McGregor would have received legal advice on this contract and whether he could do this fight without the UFC's approval. He would be pocketing the UFC's share of the purse which is likely substantial. No other fighter has been able to fight outside the UFC or even compete in another sport. I imagine the UFC has rock solid contracts with their fighters.
I hear you.
So if Conor wins he defends his title to keep Dana happy while repeatedly saying I'm the king of the world... weakest challenger he can find?
Even a big money defense, I feel Conor is in pretty damn good condition.
Let the media scream we need a rematch while he keeps Dana happy, makes the rematch worth more you know?
And if he does beat Floyd I think Dana is savvy enough to get what he can from the gravy train and leverage himself.
I'm simply super fucking spooked to bet big on Mayweather. The odds are less then 4-1 that boxing dies a terrible death on the 26th *winks*
I think the UFC is planning McGregor vs Khabib in Russia next. I also think that's an incredibly risky fight for Conor. As good as Conor is we need to remember he tapped out three fights ago to a guy with isn't even top 5 in the division.
I reckon the UFC has some super tight contracts to stop their fighters going to other MMA organisations.
But they can't stop him from boxing, they could stop him fighting MMA for sure. Possibly get a nice chunk of the cash from boxing through the courts but I'm not so sure on this. Do you think they can actually stop him from boxing?
Seriously guys, if he wins and Dana doesn't play ball the rematch will earn him more then his entire MMA career. Do you go back to fighting for crumbs or take the even huger head-shot again to fight Floyd and double your net worth?
Never going to happen.
Conor will come out a little cautious and start to push things slowly... Floyd will dance around admiring his tattoos.
He'll begin to get a little frustrated and chase Mayweather in the second and third and mostly be punching air... six or seven rounds of this and Floyd will be hitting McGregor at will.
Diaz gave him more then a little wobble, Conor has a questionable chin!
Pardon me for my paranoid delusions.
They can stop him from boxing, nobody has been able to fight for other promotions. Aldo couldn't even play soccer. Wanderlei Silva was prevented from making a paid appearance for Bellator (wasn't even fighting).
Professional sport contacts are extremely restrictive when it comes to any physical activity. They are basically slaves to their owner. No playing soccer at the park with your kid, no waterskiing at the cottage, no bike riding on streets. etc. There is no possibility that Conner can compete in any professional sport without Dana's permission. That includes water polo, ping pong, and hotdog eating contests. Dana could probably sue if he caught Conner shitting in an outhouse.
"ok, we're finished" are just words. These guys are under personal services style contracts. They can't sign any contracts without their owner's signoff. I imagine Conor is locked up for years. Breaking the contract will be subject to litigation or possibly even forced arbitration of the owners choice since that is a thing now.
I reckon he has a fair chance to box with or without the UFC approving. Not a good chance but fair.
Unless they've specifically put boxing in the clause... usually it says something like all forms of combat sport.
If you have a UFC contract and want to turn your back on the UFC and play Soccer you are free to do so.
They can ban him from MMA and other combat sports, but I don't think they'd be able to stop him boxing, litigate later sure.
Dana will take the money anyway, and leverage himself for a bigger payday if Conor loses the rematch... he aint stupid.
If the Irishman wins, there will be a rematch I'm sure.
Wow, unless you are just betting for fun there is zero value to bet on Mcgregor right now.
Great value on Mayweather across the board.
Why do you want to see him box? He's a shitty boxer, yet an accomplished MMA fighter. Why not line up to see him do what he does best. These MMA fighters are like decathletes. They are pretty good at a lot of disciplines but masters of none of them. This is a one time circus. Coner could transition to WWE once his MMA career is over. He's never going to be a boxer.
I forgot, you were right about the UFC stopping you from playing soccer in a sense. If you're contracted and intending to fight UFC they can do all sorts of shit to protect their fighters. But if you walk away into a different sport it's different.
I agree with you, he's no better then a good amateur boxer having his first couple of professional fights in my opinion... but he's fighting Floyd fucking Mayweather Jr and he's 3.5/1
He tapped to a guy who has fought many times at 170 while Conner was actually 4lbs below weight (most guys fighting Welterweight are right there not at 165/166 while Diaz likely had 20lbs on Conner at fight time I'm guessing) and who has a mean streak a milewide more so then even his brother.. Also Connor got revenge in the rematch against Diaz.
i expect conor might retire after khabib pastes him.
Value wise, unless you are betting for fun it is really retarded to bet on Conor.
Diaz is an amateur boxer at best and lit Conor up with his boxing. If Conor and Diaz had just had a boxing match for 12 rounds I have no doubt Diaz beats him. And now we are talking about Mayweather. This is going to be so one sided that Mayweather will be able to decide when he is going to KO Conor or get a stoppage between rounds. That is what makes the prop bets on the rounds so hard. Mayweather could toy with him and decide to wait and knock him out in the final round just for the hell of it.
Mayweather by KO/TKO/DQ @ -135 is the bet.
Diaz is a 155lber, the UFC hyped up the weight difference to sell the fight and protect McGregor. McGregor is also a 155lber. The second fight was super close and again, Diaz isn't top 5 in the division. McGregor is great, but he still has a lot of interesting MMA fights at lightweight (welterweight in MMA is 170). They did the first fight at 170 with Diaz because he was fat and partying on a boat 10 days before fight night. Diaz isn't a welterweight, he was severely under sized there and looked awful. This convo is probably for the UFC thread anyway.
Someone is getting fucked up in that fight. Khabib is notoriously easy to hit but he's tough and durable. We have no clue how good Conors wrestling is vs a legit wrestler at 155. Khabib could very well take him down and destroy him like he did Johnson. I love this fight and I agree, Conor may retire if Khabib mauls him.
Really?
Even if it's just some small foul?
Maybe Conor punches Mayweather repeatedly in the balls.
Or maybe he fails the drug tests because he's using steroids?
If Mayweather wins it shouldn't be counted as his 50th win.
McGregor isn't even in the top 500 of boxing contenders.
This is just an exhibition fight for cash.

I thought the contract said if McGregor throws any illegal blow other than a punch he loses 90% of his payday. If he struggles following the rules and rabbit punches time and time again the way he does in that Malignaggi clip, does he lose 90% of his pay? I can't imagine he would agree to that.
Any DQ = loses 90% of his money. It isn't really that complicated.
Whether he brings a gun into the ring and shoots him, or throws too many low blows or anything else that would normally get someone DQ'ed. It doesn't matter "how".
Haha, what a circus.
Never bet boxing so have a question cant figure out.
Right now on William Hill:
MayWeather Moneyline is -500 ish
Mayweather by decision is +200 ish
Mayweather by TKO/KO/DQ is -135 ish
How else can Mayweather win other than decision , TKO, KO or DQ? I am trying to figure out what I am missing here because based on these odds there is no reason to bet Mayweather ML.
