oh im not saying the black community doesnt have problems, im saying that an approach that acknowledges the environmental factors contributing to them is going to be more constructive, if not essential.

I'm sure the families of the 9 people shot in Chicago over the weekend are thrilled that statues in the south are coming down. No doubt it gives them comfort and warms their hearts.

The statue that was ripped down was generic Southern soldier. If any monuments were going to be used to teach and remind, a generic soldier seems to be a good example.

Regardless of that, the way to get rid of any statue the local community wants to get rid of is through the democratic process itself, not through mob rule.

We aren't a 3rd world country, that is just the way it is done here, or at least used to be done.

Would it be OK if KKK stormed DC and ripped down the MLK statue?

I suggest this new crop of Nazi's are really just left behind folks with no true grasp on history at all. As products of a failed education system and lack of local leadership they are lashing out in ways that gives them attention and therefore makes them feel good. The more they can avoid ownership and place blame of their situation on others the better they feel.

Trying to explain this situation by assuming these folks have accurate historical perspective is a waste of good logic.

I'm not advocating for commemorating the South. I'm advocating that angry mobs deciding what monuments stay and which ones go is not a good way to operate.

there is iron in these words. i think the entire alt-right movement has simply congealed around the lowest gravitational moral sinkhole. and honestly the KKK is one of the most well organized and influential political movements in the history of the confederacy, so it makes sense that all these rubes would fly the banner of white nationalism at the end of the day, what with it having the overt approval of president bannon's white house.

How are attacks on a sovereign nation by a foreign entity analogous to states declaring independence? The southern States that formed the Confederacy attempted to secede from the country they were a part of. You are making an ignorant over the top argument that holds less water than a thimble.
