How does this play with the jealousy theory. Antisemitism seems to precede wealth.

Far as i see Jews got lucky on a few occasions. They weren't doing anything different in the last 100 years vs last 1000 years. They didn't change the world, the world around them changed. More precisely the value of new industries vs old blew up. They didn't find new industries because of ingenuity, hard work, family/community oriented thinking, education etc, but because that was the only place to go. For a long time "white" people protected old industries by disallowing Jews to work in them. That was a good bet for "anglo-saxons" for about 500ish years. Then the pace of progress changed.

Mostly just disagree with the term self-made. Not that big on taking credit from things outside your control that tend to have bigger impact on the end result than whatever list of positive attributes that are just as common with those that didn't make it.

really, it's not very complicated and it's not a grand conspiracy.

jews tend to get more education than any other ethnic group, and there's a correlation between financial success and education. it would be statistically unusual if jews weren't doing ok, on average.

we shouldn't exaggerate how well they're doing though. most jews are not wealthy. it's not like they average hundreds of thousands of dollars in income more than any other ethnic group. they're only doing slightly better on average.

anecdotal, but i know many jews that have zero education, are union members and full trumpers, who are doing fine, but not exactly CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. i think jews might be over represented in teaching too, at least in the NE, though that might just be my own experience. again, they're doing ok, but not rich.

For thousands of years the Jewish people were the "chosen people." Wealth wise, probably. Sort of like why Persians in US are a wealthy minority. In tends to bump the average when "weak" get culled. And when it comes to motivating people, genocide is a decent stick and half a carrot.

seemingly but not really. i think evangelicals believe that the messiah's not coming back if israel isn't a jewish state. i have no idea why. that must be somewhere in the bible. so they kind of have a vested interest in keeping israel jewish. i wouldn't exactly say they're fans of jews. i think they also believe that anyone that doesn't accept jesus goes to hell

In case you were wondering, the luck part, when it comes to wealthy Jewish-Americans was that they were enough white adjacent and passable to get the second best opportunities. Traditional banking was closed so they moved to investment banking. Hollywood was open because of how new it was. Established law firms were closed for Jews, so they built their own. They invested and represented other Jews because they didn't really have other options because of antisemitism of the past. And yea genocide is a helluva motivator.

i'd probably argue that jews being denied jobs doesn't sound like luck, but maybe we have different definitions. blacks must be hella lucky.

gimmick, related to your other point, it doesn't surprise me about nigerians. a lot of my family works in upscale suburban schools. you know who the best students are? the african kids (not african-american). it must take a lot to overcome getting out of a third world nation and making it here. those kids are always the hardest working, get the best grades, best athletes, etc. etc.

also, so true re indian. the jews are actually fortunate that they will no longer be the universal hate group target. indians and asians are flooding the US, are super intelligent, get sick grades and get nothing but ultra-high paying jobs.

Nigerian-Americans are kinda cherry picked 2-300k from a population of 190 million. I believe brain drain is the term. Either bright or rich enough to land to US. Nigeria supported education, sending kids overseas and being enough of a volatile shithole at the same time. Most people that made it in the US never came back. That made the wealthy part from 60s onward.

There was slaves from the 17th and 18th century but they are mostly washed from the statistics. Either mixed heritage or non existing paperwork.

Like i said passable. Good enough for second best options. Those second best options just turned out to be worth a lot more in the future.

Blacks got crack. Natives got Casinos. Neither was passable enough. Might not matter in the next 50 years, but it did matter 50 years ago.
