Strong points Druff. If I were advising the campaign I would hammer home that Biden started to run for a President in 1988 and was never able to become a viable candidate. He wasn’t even a viable candidate this time around until the powers that be decided to clear the path for him. He was polling in 4th or 5th place when James Clyburn endorsed him in South Carolina. After that single win, coincidentally 2 of the candidates magically stepped aside one after another, effectively clearing the path and handing him the nomination.

This stands in stark contrast with Trump winning the Republican Nomination in 2016. His campaign can argue he had to battle and earn the victory in the primary and the general. Meanwhile, Biden never truly had to work for anything this time around. He wasn’t many Democratic voters first, and in many cases second or third choice.

He can also hit Biden on the fact that he was chosen as VP to be the anti-Cheney. Obama wanted a VP to take care of the superficial stuff and someone who would do what he was told and never overshadow the President. Trump can hammer Biden as having an unremarkable tenure as VP (Although most do, it still will play strategically).

In summary. this is all basically an attack on Biden that he wouldn’t be in sniffing distance of the presidency if he wasn’t able to stand on President Obama’s shoulders. A good line in the debate would be “Joe you are only there because Barack decided to put you there”.

I know it’s a new attack but they need to find a new angle and quick. That along with most of what you said would be my advice.

However, you're wrong about COVID being as bad as it is because of "inaction" by Trump. There was nothing Trump could have done. There is scientific and statistical evidence everywhere that the value of masking is greatly exaggerated, that each metro area will basically be hard-hit once (NY/Seattle had theirs early, Texas/Florida/others are having theirs now), and that keeping everything indefinitely shut down just accomplishes delaying the inevitable.

Remember, the point was to flatten the curve, not to prevent a curve from occurring. It is not realistic to assume we will have a vaccine or treatment any time soon, and we can't just leave everything closed for 12+ months.

Show me a major area where you feel Trump messed up COVID and it had a consequence, and I'll show you respected statistical/scientific data to the contrary. COVID-19 was going to be really bad here, regardless of who was in charge.

He could start by at least showing that Democrats were for the 60,000+ packed-in-people protests, and then show the evidence that it created COVID-19 spikes in some places like Los Angeles. At the very least, it will start to sow seeds of doubt that this is his fault.

Right now he's kind of just sitting and letting people say it's his fault, and his few denials of it ("We have one of the lowest death rates") are simply inaccurate/untrue.

That is what matters now because Trump and his people haven't done a good job getting out the truth of the matter.

New York was a disaster in April, and had far more death than Florida or Texas. Cuomo fucked up all over the place, such as leaving the subways and trains open, and forcing nursing homes to take COVID-19 positive patients. Whitmer fucked up in similar fashion regarding the nursing homes, and in fact was even worse.

DeSantis and the other Republican governors just reopened more than some people thought they should, but it's nowhere near as bad as NY, either by results or by technique.

Bottom line is that we have to reopen. We can't sit for a year or more waiting for the miracle cure. That's not realistic for the economy and other areas which can't be shut down long term. The reopening can be done cautiously, but it needs to happen. California is an example of a cautious reopening state, and look what happened there.

Then there's also the protests, which were widely lauded by Democrats, which definitely had an effect.

Bottom line is that Democrats have no place to criticize Trump for this, but Trump needs to start getting these messages out.
