In 2002, Minnesota had voter registration forms in the phone book. You could register on voting day, but back then you had to have actual ID. I had moved to a new town, and brought my form into the utility office that was serving as the polling place. However, these phone book forms always threw off the gal at the front table. Anyway, she said I was at the wrong place (my apartment was above a building on a street corner) and I should go to a church a few blocks away. So I did.
A couple weeks later I got a note in the mail saying I voted at the wrong place, and my vote was invalid. Point being, the rules used to be stricter in the Gopher State.
