Weird, I thought the Chinese govt killed him and then made up some shit about how he died from the flu

cnbc: Coronavirus live updates: China says death toll hits 722 as confirmed cases cross 34,000
this is why its so important to read between the lines with these 'official figures' coming out:

On Jan 12, the department sent a team of three specialists to South Central to investigate. The specialists said that clinical symptoms really resembled Sars, but they were still talking about diagnosis criteria, that kind of stuff. We replied that those standards were too stringent. Very few people would get diagnosed based on those criteria. The head of our hospital told them this multiple times during this period. I know other hospitals were doing the same.
Before this, the specialists already went to Jinyintan Hospital to investigate and made a set of diagnosis criteria. You had to have had exposure to the South China Seafood Market, you needed to have had a fever and test positive for the virus. You had to meet all three criteria in order to be diagnosed. The third one was especially stringent. In reality, very few people were able to test for a virus.
im sure it will all be fine, after all everyone's behaving super responsibly and sacrificing for the greater good.
I cannot say for sure that this is legit, but things are possibly pointing in that direction. Internet sleuths are apparently looking at it so I guess maybe time will tell. The actual 4chan thread this came from is absolute cancer though but this pic sums up the relevant points in the thread.

ive ordered some 20 pound bags of rice, 5 pound bags of chickpeas, lentils, beans via mail order (you are out of your fucking mind if youre spending time in supermarkets right now), and i leave them on my porch for 48 hours before i touch them to bring them indoors.
lotta things might go wrong in the next 60 days but being desperately hungry / malnourished wont be on the list.

I enjoy a pandemic as much as the next guy & don’t want to be labeled a killjoy but I also don’t want Sonatine living on rice & beans permanently b/c puts.
Ive got news for you, most people leave the hospital after battling an infection and don't return because they are cured. Shocking I know but they say that's what happens.
before you laugh at the Sontman's panic buying, try going to your pharmacy to buy an antiviral face mask
you are likely to find the joint is sold out...
no Asians anywhere in my town (no long in California btw--did a Calexit bug out), and just visited 3 places: each all out

i mean, i spent about $120 and i have like 100 pounds of dry food, which is easily 3 months where i can eat without worrying about who handled my food/money or getting breathed on.
not to mention the city stocks the trout river in my back yard every spring.
id put the odds of ever actually needing to live that life at a fraction of a percent but just knowing my needs are covered makes me sleep better.
easy hedge imo.

we should have a much clearer idea of where this thing is going to land in the next 10 days.
remember that the hospitals are already filled with flu patients, so rolling in a pandemic on top of flu is pretty fuckin unsustainable.
No one here is lucky enough to get it and frankly looking at those statistics youd have to be very lucky to catch something youd have the same odds as winning the state lottery on.
The vac will come and in weeks itll be an after thought.

Another tracking site. Seems a little more mobile friendly
Looks like a steady increase over time, but not an exponential increase
Possible that reports of Chinese people disappearing after diagnosis is some kind of forced quarantine.
I'm just not seeing this being up to panic levels yet, at least not outside China.
If sonatine wants to spend $120 on beans, though, the peace of mind is probably worth it to him.
the new hotness in china is taking healthy journalists who are reporting accurately on the situation and putting them in quarantine where they get sick and vanish.
I mean, yesterday I just ran through cases of this outside China and added it my head and came up with 322 confirmed cases with 2 deaths. Clearly they haven’t all recovered yet, so that number may rise a bit, but if it rose to 16, that would be the exact morality rate of the current flu in the US. So China can hide a bunch of stuff, but where are the bodies dropping outside the US? I can believe anything about China, but those other cases are spread all over the globe. I want to get into the pandemic story. I just can’t get past no one is dying elsewhere.

Sheahan is an assistant professor of epidemiology at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina, and has been researching coronavirus treatments since the SARS epidemic.
He holds out greater hope for a drug he's tested in cell cultures and animals, called Remdesivir.
To put it bluntly, we are shadow boxing.
- Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO
In a recent case study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, doctors describe using Remdesivir — developed for treating Ebola — to treat a coronavirus patient in Washington State. The patient improved, with their viral load reduced, but a single case proves very little.
Sheahan said until scientists conduct rigorous human clinical trials, we can't know how these drugs will fare.
"I'm optimistic, just because I have firsthand experience with [Remdesivir] in the lab," he said.
Given how much the virus has now broken out in places where it isn't known who the original vector was plus the level of contagiousness given that paper written about that hospital spreading it to 40 people from 1, this thing is not going away. It might peak in Wuhan because they shut the province down, but it hasn't even begun to peak world-wide. It'll be some time before it breaks loose in the US and maybe it won't happen but it'll require borders being shutdown.
So whats the best way to short stocks?.. I've never traded stocks.
buckle up
Is it possible this new string of coronavirus (almost identical to SARS btw) has been with us globally for a lot longer than thought? Just sayin but not everyone who dies from flu lie symptoms gets tested by the CDC.
37.198 cases in China 811 deaths
354 cases outside China 2 deaths
i just fucked up and accidentally handled some mail before it had time to disinfect on its own.
had a good run boys no regrets.
Coronavirus Deaths Climb to 813, Surpassing SARS
SOON TO BE 814
Well you have enough food to feed mumbles and it’s time for you to put aside these differences and take one for the team
There are rumors 3 more people have died while driving to stock pile food, 2 more choked to death on their mask and 1 more tripped on the way to post on a forum and hit their head.
chinavirus claims 6 more!
None of you are getting any of my organic chickpeas. Dont even bother asking.
