All this bad beat talk reminds me of the most soul crushing beat I can remember, both in improbability and because it was a very large bet for me at the time.
We are going back at least 10 years, and I dont remember all the specifics. But I remember it was an SEC game and Auburn was one of the teams. And long story short I had the dog +7.5, and they were winning the whole game. And the favorite tied it at the very end to take it into overtime, and the dog lost by 8 in like the 3rd or 4th OT under the old rules.
I dont even remember which team it was (Texas Tech?) but I also remember being on the wrong end of backing a Mike Leach (RIP) team at the end of a minor bowl game when they were up at the end of the 4th and literally could have won the game by just kneeling down; and instead they kept running plays and fumbled and lost.
But I kind of just accepted that one. If you are going to back a Mike Leach coached team that was what you were signing up for. I am sure at some point I got a cover backing Leach that I wouldn't have with another coach (and vice versa), because he kept passing downfield when the game was decided.
did anyone follow Dave Sharapan? Learned yesterday he passed. was an extraordinarily knowledgeable gambler/bookmaker/storyteller. Found him on some you tube shows and then started following him years ago. He had a podcast for a short bit, not bostonian vs the book, but another which gave some great leans on games, etc. he could see angles i certainly couldn't. Never met nor communicated with the guy, but felt i knew him or wanted to. life's not fair.
if you watch espn, etc. or any of the sports gambling shows, you would have seen him in recent times and may recognize his picture.

--Looks like it was the above game. And according to AI the line was Arkansas -6.5; but I remember getting Auburn +7.5 (maybe it was 7 at one point and I bought the extra 0.5 points which I have been known to do over the years; or it actually got to 7.5). And it looks like my memory was wrong, in that it was Auburn which tied the game with a last second FG to send it to OT, although I would have been perfectly fine if they missed the kick and lost by 3.
Rest in peace
I followed the Bostonian, Matt Perrault, for a bit. He was Andover Mass like Jay Leno. He was a radio personality for a while. The Bostonian is a professor at UNLV as a side gig. He was steps away from the UNLV mass shooting a few years ago. Perrault grinds the wager-tainment space 365 days a year. Respect for that
As a genre I love to follow old bookmakers like Sharapan who operated pre analytics.
I never acquired a taste for BVB though. I know guys who never missed it. You only have so much time
agree, the bvb was too much time to ordinarily invest. so i listened to a pod he was on weekly for the games and then i knew when he would be a guest on a couple of sports betting shows i like. loved to hear stories from when he started down in Curacao and they were taking bets by wires and over the phone and he would look outside his window and see goats grazing on a hill, meals always brought in, long hours. god, what a time and place to have been in that business/game. hell of a way to learn trial by fire.
the guy was a real class act. it's a shame.
Cardinals -105
As +116
Tigers U 7.5
Yankees U 8
Ms U 7.5
The real beginnings of the joke was 13-15 years ago when some of the offshores were offering shot on goal props for NHL games. The running gag was these books were run on an island somewhere and the lines were set by someone who has never seen a Ice Rink. He lived on the beach in a hut and just kept printing "29.5" every game.
Whats scary is for a joke it wasn't all that far off.
I understand its a big game and the Reds absolutely need a W at all costs.
But
H Green has gone over 7.5 Ks 3 times since April. The fact that Under 7.5 is getting paid +120 at some shops is.... aggressive.
Maybe I am missing something with Pitt striking out more than most.
That you could pull the 29.5 reference so easily does not go unnoticed.
This anecqdote insta triggers the glorious 1P ineptitude by the books …. gosh musta been 7 years ago now. Easiest regular money of my short ass wager career. Every morning the 1P lines triggered so much excitement. Books just didn’t care or notice.
Hockey wagering data analytics has proliferated the past 2 years. It’s no different than MLB now. I still think you find more line misprints from some books in hockey still. Apps like beebettor close them fast though.
San can you co-sign me taking Jays +105 at home vs Crochet? Better to ask forgiveness......I already did.

There is still time for a comeback.
But is scherzer my Kershaw?
99% This is the game these two are talking about.
1996, the 1st year the NCAAF had OT, & at that point in time if you had an NFL team +6.5 or more you won in OT no matter what.
I don't remember what the spread was, I do remember chalking it up as a win once the 4th QTR ended.
Then as the guy was running it back as it was all clicking that you could lose by more than a TD in OT.

whoever just made me bet the yankee under i hate you
Dodgers Yoshi F5 -0.5 -110 vs AZ. I think this will close well for me.
DBacks screwing around with openers (Beeks?) and this concerns the gay books. Don’t list pitchers and steer clear of bullpens.
If you took a LAD -1 full game -115 small I couldn’t hate that but I just can’t.
Under for me tonight.
If you want a side - id be more likely to take Sea.
Cardinals +1.5
Meant to bet this but forgot.
Actually an excellent pick. Not only has Yamamoto pitched well recently, and not only was this a bullpen game, but Arizona just kinda had the vibe of giving up after they lost last night.
Easy winner.
Currently 8-0 in the 7th. Dodgers will escape their second half fail and manage to win the division, though they will now be forced into the 3-game Wildcard Series for the first time.
we gonna hold on this seahawks and under
im now literaly betting 10 dollar spins with a dude at turfway park highlimit room with no video evidence just what hes telling me on the phone i trust him completely but lol
Please expunge those thoughts from your process. All that matters is the last 2 months.
Questions like: will Ontani open with Sheehan in relief in Game 1.
Will Ohtani recover sufficiently to produce offensively? Dodgers will HAVE to demand length that Ohtani has not really done post surgery so the canned response that Ohtani is always fine after an outing might not be thoughtful enough.
sub plots like will the every 6 day child star named Roki who never pitched relief in his short ass life be a late innings failure? Will he cry?
These questions are unique to this year. Of course, they could be facing Cincinnati so…. (Will Brewers punt tomorrow vs Reds? So they can face them not the Mets?)
It’s so much damn fun to handicap.
Did your Dodgers to win 120 games future cash? That stuff really existed. It’s hard to recollect the preseason Dodger hyperbole unless you are Sanlmar. I remember
update down 400
No, it was a 5-gamer.
The 3-game thing where the higher seed has all of them at home (stupid) started in 2022.
The Dodgers won 98+ games since 2022 except this year. That excused them from the WC round.
This year they had a fail second half and are going to end up with 90-93 wins, worst of the NL division winners (this is clinched already), so they will play that round for the first time.
It is highly likely Yamamoto will start game 1. Like, extremely likely. He has been one of MLB's best pitchers over the past two months. Ohtani had some good starts at the end, but is still a question mark.
It seems to be almost set in stone that it goes Yamamoto/Snell in games 1-2. Whether Ohtani takes the ball in relief (or Kershaw) remains to be seen. I have a feeling that they're going to stay away from the usual bullpen this series unless it's a blowout either way.
Like the colts Sunday at +3.5
Little early but it might go to 3 so figured Id mention it.
Lot of $$ showed for the Patriots over 44.5....... so they lowered the total to 43?
Again its early but just in case it sees 42
