Sanctions never work.

They're the answer to the question of, "How do we respond to something involving another country we're expected to respond to, without having to actually do anything meaningful?"

Even when the sanctions actually affect the country we're trying to punish, it often backfires. The affected country's leader simply blames the US for being evil and heartless, and the suffering citizens say to themselves, "Yup, our lives just got worse because the US put these sanctions on us", and most don't bother to think deeper than that. This just strengthens the resolve of the citizenry to support their shitty leadership even more.

Opposing leaders also feel out the mood/competence/attitude of the current US Administration, and adjust accordingly. Say what you will about Trump, but everything he did foreign policywise worked out. Sure, he pissed off a lot of leaders, including our so-called UN allies, but every move he made ended up being correct. That's why we didn't have foreign policy disasters under Trump, yet we've already got plenty under Biden. The peak of Trump's Presidency came in early January 2021, after killing Soleimani. The left tried to build a narrative that this would start an endless war with Iran. It didn't. Iran came back with a purposefully weak and symbolic response, and then backed away. Once again, Trump made the right foreign policy move, despite defying the "experts' saying otherwise. The economy was booming. Reelection looked very likely. Then came a certain virus, and everything fell apart for him.

Bottom line is that it's no coicnidence that so many foreign leaders are getting uppity with Biden. He's seen as an old, senile fool they can walk all over, and they're doing so. Trump they always saw as a little bit crazy to the point where he might fuck back with them, so they acted accordingly.

It just occurs to me Trump has kept silent on Ukraine. If things go badly - he’s gonna own heads.

I still don’t fully understand why he wasn’t a neocon like every President since Eisenhower. I can speculate but it is fascinating.

Quickly - as I’m tired, Biden needs to provoke conflict before the pipeline completion in June.

If Russia is perceived as a bad actor perhaps Germany and others cancel and come back into the US fold and nix the pipeline.

Presently, France and Germany are negotiating deals directly with Russia.

Germany cancelled their nuclear power program and needs to replace that energy. Biden will offer some nonsense ad hoc shipments of LNG at far higher prices if Nords Stream is cancelled.

Ukraine isn’t asking for our help. Biden’s rhetoric is killing Ukraine’s economy. Zelensky and the government will collapse if the current nonsense continues.

Russia is doing war game shit within Russian borders. Don’t believe the video being fed MSM. Russia has always had bases near their borders. You can imagine why. We are the only country with servicemen and bases all over the world.

War games? See the story about the fighter aircraft that crashed into our aircraft carrier and sank into the sea off China? The concern that China might retrieve it before we do?

Consider this. For the first time in centuries China is involving itself in European affairs. It’s all going swimmingly cause the Biden crew are absolutely inept diplomats.

But you are correct. Sanctions don’t work. Check out our sanctioned friends in Iran. Another shit show. I was predicting military action on two fronts. Taiwan and Ukraine. I may have underestimated things.

By the time a politician gets to the top he/she is beholden to all the special interest groups that got them to the top. So they are esentially puppets of the special interest groups and act accordingly.

Trump was totally independent of that. He was his own man beholden to no one. That's why he's not a neo con. And its why I jumped on his bandwagon early.

I wanted to see a president that was not bought and paid for by the special interest groups. It was quite remarkable watching him operate. On every issue he made everyone under him get the lead out. When he wanted something done he demanded it be done quickly. He didn't allow people to drag their feet. No kicking the can down the road.

His independence before becoming president allowed him to say fuck the neo con globalist bullshit. America first.

The difference between the Trumps and Bidens is the Trumps got rich and then went into politics. The Bidens went into politics and then got rich.

With the Russian sanctions get ready for even higher inflation. Biden sinking the fossil fuel industry with his cancelling of drilling contracts, cancelling ANWR, Dakota Access and Keystone was a major blunder. Gas is already to high but its going to go even higher now. Plus precious metals we have been importing from Russia will become more expensive. And with no more Russian grain, we are going to pay more to eat.

Biden is a trainwreck.

Either Biden is real good at foreign diplomacy re getting the NATO countries, EU, and others all united in opposition to Putin, or the rest of the world has pretty much figured out that he (Biden) is senile and incompetent and that the US can no longer be relied upon as a world leader. Germany stepping up, Poland stepping up, even Switzerland. What the heck is going on? China is sure taking notes.

I personally feel it's more of the latter (senile/incompetent) which doesn't bode well for the long term, but no doubt Biden will be taking full credit at the State of Union this week.

We are absolutely the followers not the leaders here. I am dumbfounded by Germany’s swift reaction, for example, which was made at great cost to themselves. My cynicism makes it hard to understand or accept but I am full of admiration.
