thanks for the massive wall of green rep and all the nice comments guys
a few notes about the tourney...
I did get very lucky on a few hands I have to admit...but hey that's poker
sucked out on AA shoving AK and 4 flushed him
then hit two huge rivers
but overall its probably the best tourney I've ever played. I was focused for 13 hours straight
the final two tables short handed were so intense.
We played with 10 left for almost 45 mins before the final table. Have to admit I was nervous I was going to bubble so short of the final table with so much money at stake
The best part of the tourney was when we were 5 handed on the final table and stopped to discuss numbers and a chip chop.
The Canadian asshole who finished 4th was insisting on 15K which would have been more than my cut, which was ridiculous considering I was chip leader at the time and had him outstacked by almost 5 million.
4 of us all agreed to the chip chop numbers, but he kept insisting he had an 'edge'
Finally after 10 minutes of reviewing numbers, we all told him to fuck off and played on
a few hands later, I picked up JJ UTG and raised to 1.5 million...he shoved 12 million which was pretty much my entire stack at the time.
I snap called of course and he had 99.
I faded the two outter and he was out in 4th costing himself almost 7 grand since he didn't want to agree to the chip chop deal
GTFO
I'm pretty stoked obv, this is my biggest score ever and a real game changer
anyway it was emotionally and physically draining to play almost 13 hours straight but of course well worth it
now the challenge is figuring how how the fuck I am gonna get the cash off Stars
any advice welcome
peace
Couldnt you just open an account with a Mexican bank and do a wire transfer?
Caveat: some countries are real shitty about foreigners opening accounts, but I cant imagine Mexico is on that list.
I'll send it to you on Paypal for a 10% fee.
I'll deliver it in person in pesos for 50% fee.
Sick, nicely done

Play some of the TCOOP lower buyin events. Try to bink it even bigger?
This is actually very fair. When I got into horseracing like 10 years ago, when we would get an IRS type winner, there was a black guy there that would always cash the ticket for anyone under his social #. On a $2,000 winner, you give him the ticket and you got back $1,800. Whole track used his services and he basically made a living off of it. He would just hang around all day and wait for someone to hit a winner and offer his services.
This seems like a clean transition of funds what simpdog is offering. Best to remain a ghost.
Druff, I see you haven't posted in this thread or greened Tyde.
Please comment
TIA
I would like to know from Marty what style he used to beat 16,500 here. Was he super aggro and managed to hit a lot? Was he semi-conservative and just picking good spots?
Winning a tournament with this field size is very tough, even if much of the competition sucks.
Also I am curious how much Marty is going to withdraw from Stars. If he's smart, it will be almost all of it.
I knew 2 people who did this in poker.
Basically one was a big online winner, and the other was an addicted gambler who was also a poker fish.
The addicted gambler had lost hundreds of thousands that year, while the pro had won like 500k online.
They staged some bogus HU matches at Commerce where the good one "lost" to the bad one. The good one put a bunch of money in front money there, and withdrew it all during this brutal "loss". Then the degen just passed back the chips to the good one (after the match), who slowly cashed them out. Saved the good player like 150k in taxes.
So sometimes it can be valuable to have a friend who is a degenerate gambler.
I hope you get scammed for everything just like you got scammed for your website.
So epic Tyde!!! Congrats!!
I agree with the cash out 15k and let the rest ride idea, and try to heeb up the rest. Shit 15k is like 2 fucking years of living expenses in Mexico.
Winnie gonna be eating good tonight!!
SFO.
As much as everyone here, including myself gives you a hard time I am super happy for you.
I hope you make the best of that money as well.
Congrats, big day for sure.
As Sonatine said I would just open a bank account in Mexico. Make sure you bring a little cash with you to deposit for your account.
As they said foreign banks can be weird, but if you're a customer coming in to deposit money and open an account they will be more than happy to have your services.
Only problem is you need a passport etc. Not sure the rules on that.
GL!
Also, that is not a bad deal at all from simpdog, the first one...

Happy for you Jewdy.
TCOOP starts in a few days also.
Criminal if you don't leave a few $$ online for that.
We so need some celebratory beachfront videos for this. Even with shitty Mexican internets.
well lets just say that I've managed to close a bunch of leaks in my MTT game since coming to Mexico
I had a bad habit of getting in trouble making loose calls pre-flop and over committing myself to draws, or simply overplaying certain hands
I pretty much limit my bluffs now to continuation bets or check raises on the turn. I try not to fire 3 barrels very often anymore, although I did stuff it all in in this tourney with air on one hand midway through the tourney
It pretty much comes down to paying close attention to stack sizes and where I stand in the field.
Much of my decision making was predicated on where I was on the leader board, how many players were left, as well as playing on 'fear of loss' that players have when they are close to the bubble
I rarely 'snap fold' anymore....regardless of the strength of my hand, I like to pause for at least 5-10 seconds prior to betting or folding
I'm paying much closer attention now to bet sizing and position and making a lot more laydowns preflop with marginal hands like K/Jos, J/10 and low pocket pairs...where in the past I was overplaying small pairs
Even now with hands like AQ, AJ etc...I'll just elect to flat call and disguise the strength of my hand, rather than come over the top with a reraise
also, it seems now that the trend with a lot of players is to minraise often, and I've been making bold resteals with trash from the button or small blind looking to accumulate as many chips as I can without seeing a flop
I think it comes down to slow and steady chip accumulation rather than just camping out waiting for KK or AA and jamming.
Also, several times in this tourney I got paid off huge by flat calling raises with QQ/KK/AA and letting my opponent dig his own hole betting into me
I've also been watching quite a few of the final table replays that Stars has, to get a better sense of how to approach various situations and when to make preflop laydowns
There were almost 900 hands in this tourney, and everything just came together perfectly and I came down the homestretch with a massive stack trying to position myself for the final table.
Anything short of the final table would have been very disappointing considering Stars payout structure is borderline criminal
I suppose I could post the entire hand history sometime if anyone is interested
good job Marty!
also...
as far as the cash goes
I'm selling my pos Range Rover which has giving me nothing but headaches since I bought it, and heading to San Diego in a week or so to buy a Jeep Wrangler 4X4 in the 4-5K range
leaving 2K on Stars to grind on...that should be plenty considering I prefer to play low to mid stakes tourneys
I plan on withdrawing at least 15K from Stars as soon as I can figure out the best way to do it and being smart about what I spend it on
Here is the Wrangler I have my eye on....
would be the perfect vehicle for the Baja coast
seriously considering a move to Cabo
Man, if I had a score like that I'd get a Camper van and play live without incurring hotel costs.
