I don't know if Willie wants to divulge the full details of our bet, but let's just say that Willie has financial incentive for the Cardinals to get more than 90.5 wins, and I have financial incentive for the Cardinals to get fewer than 90.5 wins. Looks like it's going to be a nice sweat. The Cardinals are at 87 wins with 6 games to go, starting with the world famous Chicago Cubs.

Wainwright might be a 20 game winner, but he's no Kershaw.
Wainwright is what Kershaw would be if he got completely bombed about once every 4 starts.
In any case, I'm happy to have Wainwright on one of my fantasy teams, but no question that he's the 2nd best pitcher in the NL.
I am a little bit worried about the Dodgers and NLDS home field advantage, but the Dodgers pretty much suck at home and have the best road record in MLB, so perhaps it's for the best that the Cards pass them.
Key to beating the Dodgers is to get into extra innings with them at Dodger Stadium. Pretty much an automatic loss for LA in that spot.

I feel the exact same way about the Royals. I believe the Royals have the 2nd best road record in baseball after the Dodgers. The Royals are 42-39 at home and 43-32 on the road. The Royals are a pitching and defense team and Kauffman is built just for that. So that makes it even more puzzling really. The only explanation is the young inexperienced Royals team must just play looser on the road. Not nearly as much pressure. For that reason alone, im fine with where the Royals are now. I always thought it was weird that baseball has fields of varying dimensions. No other sport that I'm aware of does that. Also, half the league playing with different rules (DH), further muddying the data.

You mentioned yourself that Colorado and Arizona are hitter friendly, and the Dodgers play as many games on the road in those places as they do in SF and SD. And Colorado is much more of a hitters' park than any pitchers' park is a pitchers' park. So no matter which way you slice it, Kershaw is not enjoying the benefit of pitchers' parks on the road, yet his ERA is a spectacular 1.85. He's not one of those pitchers who owns at Dodger Stadium but gets clobbered on the road. I have seen many of those "good" pitchers over the years and agree they were overrated, but Kershaw isn't.
As I said before, Wainwright's problem is that he gets bombed too often. For the last 2 years, he has had a number of absolutely terrible starts, and then he pretty much owns the rest of the time. Kershaw almost never gets bombed. In fact, Greinke doesn't either, but Greinke's typical start is not nearly as good as the Kershaw or Wainwright typical start.

Pedro had like a 1.75 era one of those years in the late 90s or early 2000s and the league average was like 4.75 and the AL east was stacked with hitters and the league juicers although Pedro may have been juicing himself. Kershaws era is about half the league averageQuote:

The more I thought about today Chris Sale is having a better season than Kershaw THIS SEASON. Give him Petco, Qualcom and Dodger stadium and the ability to face a pitcher 2-3 x a game and some scrub pinch hitter the other at bat or 2 + the ability to pitch around the 7-8 hitters and I think he produces the same #s maybe better than Kershaw and they aren't too far off as they stand now
I'm not dismissing Kershaw here either as he is the best in the game
