Please, for the love of God, let Tyson turn him into Daniel Franco.
I'd be surprised if they can even get this sanctioned as a legitimate fight. Tyson can't make some 195 catchweight. Paul would have to come up to HW, which he's capable of at his size, but unlikely to do.
Realistically, this is an exhibition spar, and quick cash grab. Maybe they take a few chances but I doubt they really go after each other with any kind of intent.
Yeah he has a 9-1 actual boxing record. Granted, only one of those have been an active boxer. Tommy Fury. And save for a flash knockdown, Tommy made him look like an amateur.
I'd say if it's a legit fight, he's got an opportunity to land something big if he survives early on. Tysons footwork and power are still nasty enough to jump on him for 45 seconds or so and unleash some shit he isn't ready for. Jake makes a ton of really sloppy mistakes, but he's got a whole lot of power. He's shown no ability to fight off his back foot, though. Tommy had him falling all over himself and he doesn't have great footwork either.
Really hard to imagine 58 year old Tyson beating up on someone less than half his age, who's been legitimately training in boxing for like 7 years or so with top trainers.
Paul probably doesn't get the credit he deserves, however much that is. He IS training hard to box. He fought Tommy Fury a little too soon. Beat Silva, who in his own right, whipped the shit outta JCC Jr in a boxing match just before he fought Paul.
The guy is a legit tough dude. He'd fold the average man in half in a boxing ring.
I'm in the minority, in that, it doesn't really bother me. He's brought some eyes to women's boxing with Sorrano. And if they do this right and stack the undercard, it could breathe some life into the sport.
i dont think tyson needs to beat anyone up per se, like i agree hes not going to win on the cards. part of me suspects he still has the means to end fights while working/exiting the clinch tho, but i wonder if i would change my tune if i rewatched his late career fights. like maybe im confusing prime tyson with aging tyson.
I heavily suspect that this will be nothing more than a glorified sparring session; but I still have hope that something will irk Tyson and he'll lose it, catch Paul on the chin, and drop him.
Yeah for sure. I mean he's probably still really dangerous especially in early rounds. Against a guy who has below average footwork (for a pro fighter).
I don't think people talk enough about the end of his career tbh. He was losing to some pretty bad fighters there in the last couple fights. I'm all over the record saying that I think he's probably the most overrated fighter of all time, though. He lost to the best guys he fought. The impact he had on the sport can't be argued, but he never beat a single fighter that puts him in the conversation for GOAT, or even best HW, imo. If he's a top 3 HW, then I guess so is Wladimir Klitschko. Equally dominant, just in different fashion.
I got off topic. I think it's probably gonna end up being an exhibition style spar.
I hope Mike Tyson gets paid big for this, not a huge fan of seeing him involved in this but I do see how it can be a great opportunity for him
His book is still one of my all time favorites
I read it during a trip to Spain and Morocco
Yeah it's pretty tough to imagine Mike Tyson, age 58, beating anyone in a boxing match these days aside from a regular Joe.
A lot of people underestimate how huge the age thing is in a situation like this.
It'll get eyeballs, though. I'll grant you that. I'll probably be one of them.
Did anyone see the cartoon Mike Tyson Mysteries on Adult Swim in the 2010s? Actually very surreal and fairly clever. And it takes place in Las Vegas, though it's probably the first Vegas-set show to almost exclusively show suburban Vegas and not casinos.
He really does live in Vegas, and has for a long time.
When I was in NYC in 2012, I saw Tyson there on the street. He seemed to be willing to stop and take pictures with people. I almost stopped and had Benjamin take a picture with him, who was only 2 at the time. Would've been funny to show later. I wish I had.
actually fuck that i like this topic more.
i had an interesting experience recently; i started getting deep into the bare knuckle boxing scene. and what shocked me is that almost all the MT / mma legends who end up in bk fights get absolutely destroyed; they either break their hands or they get obliterated by a C tier boxer with a A tier jab and good head movement.
and the reason i bring this up is you kinda forced me to admit something to myself; i dont fanboy tysons talent as much as i admire how he leveraged dedication and training to take advantage of him having the absolute perfect body type to fold dudes.
again thats just how my enthusiastic fan eyes see it, the more i learn about actual boxing the more i realize how little i ever knew about it.
like if you told me i had 6 months to train and i had to choose between studying with mike tyson or kassim ouma, im taking ouma every single time.
It’s went from he’s not a real fighter to him beating 40 year old wrestlers, to beating marginal fighters, to banging my head off a wall.
It’s so annoying to try to explain to girlfriends younger boys.
You go from he’d lose to any real fighter, to I didn’t mean I could beat him up or just some guy, to he’s not the best in the sport or even close. Now he’s fighting the one guy even kids know.
Going to be really annoying when I have to explain to them what 58 means and get them excited they’ll be beating my ass in a few years. It already happened in a foot race. Went from giant head start, to lesser head start, to me needing a head start.
Tyson as a +325 underdog and Paul as a -500 favorite

Tyson really has little chance. I’m not even sure if he has much of a knockout chance. He looked horrible in his jones fight 4 years ago. It’s one thing fighting at 45 but he is nearly 60. And for a guy who relies on speed well I can only conclude he is getting an awesome payday.
Also bonus video of butterbean. Must watch

I guess Netflix is paying around $50 to $75 million for this fight.
The fight will be free to stream LIVE for all netflix subscribers.
Whoever smokes the most weed before and during the fight wins.

I can't believe this is being talked about in a serious fashion. Gonna be just like Mike vs RJJr. Sparring until a draw.
Might as well analyze WWE matchups.
i hate how interested i am to find out what scenario comes to pass.
Tyson was an absolute legend. People of all ages tuned into his fights and wanted to see KOs.
Now we are tuning in to see wtf will happen. Will Tyson be amped up on drugs and try to bite Jake’s ear?
Somewhat sad to see a legend in this position having to fight at age 58. But I do have Netflix and will be part of the record setting stream of this gong show.
18 oz gloves and headguards.
apparently it would be so hard for tyson to be sanctioned as a pro at age 58 that they are just going to use training / sparring gear.
I went to Tyson's fight against Lennox Lewis and we were all shocked on just how old he looked in the ring. He was barely moving by like round #4 and towards the end was literally target practice for Lewis. He was in his mid 30s. Now pushing 60, no way this is going to be watchable. People are going to be incredibly disappointed.
I saw an interview with the Rock and he said he literally is training every day and actually has a ring in Florida and Hawaii to train for what will be a limited match in Wrestlemania. He is 50 and said its the toughest thing physically he has ever done, trying to act like he is 30 in the ring. And the outcome is staged.
Now that I think it, this outcome is probably staged as well. No way it gets sanctioned, it would tarnish the sport that already is on life support, at least in the USA. It's a sad state for US boxing the sport never really recovered after the Mayweather- Pacquiao disastrous pay per view.

Won't be shocked he knocks Jake Paul out

Garrett. Would you consider fighting Iron Mike after he turns 65?
word on the street is that tyson had a heart attack last night in an airport.
Wouldn’t surprise me if true. Like I don’t know if he really cares about winning this or not? But he’s seemed to spring back into shape very quickly. Too quickly. There were always rumors, and rumors weren’t some TRT shit. It was Mibolerone (cheque drops) and other stuff that’s really harsh at 27, let alone 57.
I truly wonder even if he did have a minor heart attack if they’d cancel or they’d try to hide it? Obviously the boxing commissions wouldn’t clear it, but this is closer to an exhibition match that is choreographed similar to WWE. Dude is 57. The purse hasn’t been released, at least last I saw, but I read he’s expected to make at least $25 million and possibly closer to $40 million.
You aren’t seeing another payday like that in your life if your Mike.
I hope Tyson is able to fight. If he dies, he dies.
Despite his lavish lifestyle blowing through millions and his rape conviction, I feel bad that his net worth is likely a few million at this point.
Don King alone likely stole 100 mill from Tyson.
Has anyone ever got a pass for being a convicted rapist in terms of public opinion like Mike? I’m guilty of it also. I sometimes forget he is a legit convicted rapist. It doesn’t seem to follow him for some reason and he’s viewed as this lovable Mike now. I see moms of my generation. hoping he beats up Jake Paul.
I saw something about that Danny Masterson dude the other day. I was thinking about how Scientology connections might have prevented him from being arrested back in 2003, but had he been caught, he likely would have been out in 2 years. Mike served 3 years. Cosby is a more similar case. Multiple victims, old cases, drugging, and he got 3–10 year sentence before they let him out. He probably would have done 2 years anyway.
So while Scientology might have saved him 2-3 years of his youth, he couldn’t have had worse timing to get charged with 20 year old rapes than during metoo with Leah Remini sitting front low lobbying for him to get locked up. He legit does like 2 years in 2003 and got 30-life.
Weird derail, but I recall when Kobe died, half the comments on Twitter referred to him being a rapist for a case they never brought. Never see it mentioned with Tyson.
I think why Mike got a pass long term was the fact he got trapped. Now, I don't think a 19 year decided that day to trap him in advance, Mike was hammered it was 2am and she willfully went up to his room out of starstruck syndrome. What was a 19 year old doing with a 25 year guy in a bar anyway at 2am? Yeah I get the 'no means no' argument, my gosh its been jammed down our throat the last few years. But my gut has always said she decided she was raped after the fact, after consulting with her mother who drove the prosecution.
A key point is Mike has never been accused of any type of sexual assault since then. He was 25 at the time, now 58. If he was a predator like Michael Jackson you would have thought another accusation would have happened by now. By his own admission he was out of control at the time, but this was not a guy prowling for women, he just got used to the fact women would go up to his hotel room late at night. Funny thing is most of his boxing earnings happened after he was released from prison, before he squandered it all.
