Brian Wilson was not right in the head long before that became fashionable. It was his brand.
I wonder if he was ever happy. Quite a story
RIP
As is common for the Dodgers, Wilson was great when they had him super cheap, and then terrible when they signed him on a new contract.
Brian had a tough upbringing with an abusive father who was also obsessed with making them into stars. Murry Wilson, Brian's father, had been abused by his own father while growing up, and found an interest in songwriting as a boy. His dream was to write hit songs, and he obsessed over it all his life.
I can forgive him for having some craziness as an adult. I always wondered what Brian would've been like if he had a nicer father.
Still, he ended up better off than his brothers, as Dennis drowned at age 39 while drunk, and Carl died at age 51 from lung cancer. Murry also died young -- age 55 of a heart attack.
Brian later came around to believe that his dad's abuse might have been good, as it helped "push" the boys into becoming stars and giving their all to the effort.
I guess the best musical upbringing was the father of the Jackson 5. He basically beat the shit out of all of them to become stars, but hey it worked.
Remember when Reagan’s Secretary of the Interior James Watt wanted to ban The Beach Boys from performing at the 4th of July ceremony on the Capitol Mall because they might attract the “wrong element” to the festivities? That was fucking hilarious.
