WSOP $5300 NL Holdem Online Bracelet Event fails to get 8 players, gets cancelled, but WSOP keeps promoting it on Twitter

Big embarrassment all around.

WSOP.com's online bracelet event #13, open only to Michigan/Nevada/New Jersey residents, was having trouble filling up.

Well, that's an understatement. Here's what happened:

So yeah, it failed to get 8 people registering prior to the start of the event, and it was cancelled. Presumably this auto-cancellation was programmed into the system in order to prevent the event starting with a final table, and then having to "un-final-table" once more players arrive. Or perhaps they're worried that, with fewer than 8 players, there could be one player with all the chips before late registration ends. In any case, it embarrassingly got cancelled.

Even more embarrassing was this tweet:

Apparently their social media manager didn't get the memo. All of the replies were mocking them for it.

This also renewed the controversy regarding online bracelets being considered equivalent to real bracelets. If they can't draw 8 players for a $5k event, should they reconsider handing out bracelets for these things?

Can you describe what the tweet was because its been deleted and cant be viewed. Also, what do you think is reason the event couldn't even draw a full table? A $5,300 "bracelet event" seems like there should be a fair amount of demand for something like that even if it is online. Is this an indication that online poker is not thriving?

The now-deleted tweet was promoting the event about 40 minutes after it was cancelled.

I am also surprised they didn't draw 8 people before start time of the $5300 NL. But yeah, wsop.com has been a big ghost town for the most part.
