Big Tech's big 2023 problems

In mid-January, Google laid off 12,000 employees in a very cold and abrupt fashion, completely contradicting their lifetime ethos of being employee-friendly: https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/20/tech/...ure/index.html

Amazon has laid off 27,000 employees in 2023, including 9,000 announced recently: https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/20/tech/...ffs/index.html

Zuck's reimagined "Meta" will likely be laying off 10,000 employees in spring 2023, after shedding 11,000 of them in November 2022. The feelings around the company are that it's the tech equivalent of the Titanic, and is about to hit the iceberg: https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/14/media...ces/index.html

Twitter would be doing the same, if Elon hadn't already laid off a high percentage of the workforce.

None of this is bad. We really need these arrogant, customer-abusing, hypocritical, ideologically intolerant behemoths to fail. The only one I don't want to see fail is Amazon, as they're flawed, but not terrible.

How is this failing? It seems the sentiment is they are just going to lean down, become more efficient and profitable, and business will continue as usual. It seems people have moved onto other social media platforms and no one really uses Facebook anymore, so even with IG they are still poised to be a diminished entity moving forward. But the other companies seems they are just going to get leaner and meaner and not "fall."

Druff is probably just jealous that he never rode the wave of their stock prices skyrocketing because he instead invested in real estate and playing limit poker.

Meta is definitely failing. The entire "Meta" concept itself isn't catching on, and that leaves Zuck with a stale platform (Facebook) and one which is slowly losing relevance (Instagram). Morale supposedly very low at the company.

The others will not fail in the middle term, but the fact that they are having to engage in mass layoffs shows that they are not enjoying the effortless profit they once were.

These companies saw no need to get leaner before, because things were going so well. Now they're having to shed extraneous employees (of which there were many) in order to get by.

The problem in tech is that things can change extremely quickly. Myspace was the first example of this in the social media area (even though they essentially invited social media), though they also never monetized it properly.

I would love to see Big Tech knocked off their perch in some way. They're far too powerful.
