The truth is that many gay men are economically conservative (partly due to the fact that they are more affluent than average), and there are even some who are socially conservative.
Gay men are mostly Democrats because that party has historically been the one in their corner, but times are changing. I personally know a few gay men who changed their party allegiance after the Orlando shootings, seeing prominent Democrats do all they could to avoid linking it to radical Islam.
I actually hope the Dems continue their peculiar love affair with Islam, as that very well might be the catalyst necessary to push the gay male population over to the GOP. Many of the ingredients are already there.
Milo actually could have been influential in helping convert fellow gay men over to the GOP, but he was more interested in attention whoring than accomplishing anything real for the right.
But it's just a mater of time until other less controversial gay men rise to the forefront of today's GOP. One result of the modern political divisiveness is that it actually has fostered some degree of racial/religious/sexual tolerance in place of ideological tolerance.
Suddenly a flamboyant gay guy with jungle fever got standing ovations at GOP events, simply because he agreed with their politics, spoke well, and had charisma. This would have been unheard of 5 years ago, let alone 10 or 20.
The new normal in American politics is to embrace any potential ally who will help you beat the other side.
Interestingly, another rising conservative YouTube star is Blaire White, a transsexual.
It's becoming less and less about the person, and more about the message they are projecting.
Sadly, this still hasn't resulted in a less divisive country, because this party-versus-party bickering has also brought us into a new era of race baiting and identity politics. Overall, we are more divided than ever.
Sad!
