Which is more dangerous...Coronavirus or people infected with the Donald Trump virus? (stupid ignorant motherfuckers who think they know everything)
japan is seeing a drop in new covid19 cases. what i take from that is that prophylactic measures actually can work. what i also take from that is that very few cultures are capable of japan's fastidiousness. people in japan pretty much wear masks and gloves out of habit so its somehow not surprising that by relatively minor tweaks to their behavior (washing hands regularly for example) they are able to have an impact. also they have incredibly sophisticated hospitals and took this very seriously immediately.
compare that to the US where team druff calls this a hoax, doesnt distribute test kits, and completely ignores appropriate protocols So tHeY DoNt SpoOk ThE MaRkeT and its safe to say we have a ways to go before we can modulate our culture appropriately. our surgeon general is literally telling people masks dont work, dont buy them, also we need them for emergency responders loOoOoOl so honestly i dont like our chances of ducking this bullet.

by comparison it was reported that cases in thailand were tapering off last week until someone peeked under the hood and found out thailand had stopped reporting it as coronavirus and rebranded it as viral pneumonia. and that viral pneumonia cases were steadily increasing in number.

One thing is clear. We are now the wealthiest banana republic ever. That South Korea has drive thru testing and we have hospitals sending shit from Seattle to Atlanta or farming it out to some on site CDC skeleton crew to confirm is embarrassing. That we are reporting on M/W/F while the rest of the actual first world has daily updates is absurd. We used to be the go to people for this shit back in the day. Now we are on par with some Eastern European country.
I think a trend is emerging where we are realizing there are a boatload more cases worldwide than we realized. I’m also guessing it’s not nearly as deadly as presumed. Without a vaccine, it doesn’t have to be to bury a million people here in the US. We will know better in a few weeks how deadly it truly is when the countries with their shit together and transparent see how many people have passed.
ive been having this convo in a few places at once so apologies if im just repeating myself here, but here is something that really changed my perspective:
as of 6 months ago, 40% of americans reported they were 1 paycheck away from homeless.
so if they get sick with this, they are going to show up for work. your waiter. your stewardess. your cook. the guy punching your ticket on the train. the bus driver. the uber driver. the grubhub delivery guy. the mailman. the kindergarten teacher.
people are going to ping pong this fucking virus around until a vaccine is created and fun fact, other examples of coronavirus include SARS and the common cold. how are those vaccines coming along? pretty sure someone cranked out a vaccine for SARS last year that had one drawback; it was 100% fatal.
also at 1% mortality, which is pretty conservative, and 60% infection rate of our 330m american citizens, thats 1980000 fatalities.
the alternative is we implement some sort of safety net that allows those people to get paid while staying at home to recover. like, imagine the cost there. this administration would sooner put them in concentration camps and plague islands.

LOL @ this stat. You have to be so out of touch with reality to believe this
atine, if you could include the cost of medical care as another reason Americans will continue to grind it out untreated you really have THE master document here.
you think Druff will see a physician?
i applaud that you recognize the conservative death rate now while apply to large numbers
it really is impossible to get a clean take on the virus this morning. the noise and the infotainment is ridiculous. i live in the northeast where we used to have snowstorms and the local news stations would whip the population into a frenzy with uninterrupted coverage of reporters in knee deep snow. well, global warming so we got virus now.
