He is yelling about the cops shooting him with bean bags, and shows the bloody bruises that he has from them. When asked how he got them, he said that he was throwing things at the police.

Even though he was yelling, he was fine while being detained and definitely did not have the injury when he was being guided into the van. Something happened on the ride to the police station that caused the severed spine. Most likely scenario was a "rough ride", which is a tactic that police have used for a long, long time.
Also, not condoning anything here, and not saying this should matter in detaining this guy, but he had been arrested 20 times before this arrest. It's definitely not out of the question he was dealing, or doing something he shouldn't have been doing, and they chased him down.
think I read it on CNN, but pretty sure they said that it's 100% legal for them to stop the guy...not considered profiling...

CNN was showing a video clip of him standing on his own on the back of the van and getting in on his own. It was shown a lot a few days ago. He also stood up on his own even before they helped him up to get in. I thought it was pretty widely accepted that the injury happened after the video footage, and that is what I've been seeing on most of the reports on all the news outlets I've watched or read. The rough ride scenario was talked about a lot as well.

Again, obviously the cops or the other guy that was in the van fucked this guy up at some point. All I'm saying was he didn't have a severed spine, or a crushed larynx before getting in that van. You DEFINITELY don't yell when you have a crushed larynx, and you don't stand when you have a severed spine.
