    Pokerstars latest signed Pro is...

    http://www.pokerstarsblog.com/en/blo...t-154235.shtml

No real surprise cause Jason Somerville promotes himself and poker better then practically anyone on the planet right now. He was playing on Pokerstars at the PCA on twitch and also commentated on the streams there so they must have locked hin up.

Even PLOL can't hate cause Pokerstars don't discriminate against the gays.

Do you think they compared Sklanskys twitch vs Somervilles? Guessing that made this signing a little bit easier.

Yeah they tried to get Sue as a pro but Skalansky wasn't willing to move with her so she is stuck in his home fixing him fried stickyrice for now.

Not just himself. He is one of the only people that treats sponsorship like a job. He works hard to promote his company because I guess he sees that as part of the deal. Lots of other guys just consider it a patch deal.

Did I ever tell you guys about Isildur telling me "I don't do interviews" while wearing his FTP patch at a major event? I didn't even get annoyed. I just laughed that Rational was paying him. I think there's a lot of dead weight on these pro rosters. I wonder what took them so long to get Jason on board.

Isuldur, remember him? Just saw your "Black & Yellow " reposted by PLOL. Felt like a history lesson.

This signing is a sign of the poker as fun & entertainment movement. Which is good for the game and the only way to grow.

Is it possible Somerville will be the only "poker pro" signed by Stars this year? Somerville is prolly making more income from the entertainment and sponsorship end than poker.

More fresh money will join Stars cause of StickyRice types or Somerville than Dan Cates or Barry Greenstein.

I can only speculate, but Stars has cut a lot of pros in the past several months. Clearly they had some new marketing strategy with that, but it was unclear which direction they were going. At first it seemed they were just trimming it down, perhaps seeing it as a poor investment. When Joe Cada's contract expired, all he asked for was a rakeback deal to renew, and they still cut him loose. This from a company that used to pride itself on having all the latest ME champs on their roster. But then they signed some random unknowns in Asia and South America, presumably just to attract players from their respective countries.

So they obviously see value in bringing on new people, but I guess they have different ideas about which players actually have value. Name recognition seems to not be enough. Humberto Brenes, Marcel Luske, and several other TV guys from the boom era have been cut.

They've signed more ex jocks than poker players. I think the direction is pretty clear.

Sportsbook is the focus here. About to open. Mayweather Pacquiao is sooo important given their earnings are due to come out just before. It's about growth and poker isn't where the growth is.

Somerville may be more important to sportsbook with MMA than poker. Semibluff but you could fold to this.

That's not true, and the signing of athletes to Pokerstars is nothing new.

I see that they finally got rid of Vanessa Rousso, she had been a sponsored PokerStars pro for over 8 years.

They really don't need to sponsor poker pro's from America since they legally can't play online for real money.

PokerStars will probably get rid of these PokerStars pro's next...

    Jason Mercier
    Barry Greenstein
    Eugene Katchalov
    Victor Ramdin

Is there a big gay market for poker?
I doubt that Jason Somerville will last very long on Team PokerStars.

Maybe PokerStars should go after the heterosexual male market and hire this team next...

Very logical choice for sponsorship. He also has the most popular poker podcast, so that's a great platform for promoting. I can imagine it's only a matter of time before sponsors start contacting me due to my many appearances on PFA radio....

PokerStars also let go David Williams.

Will he resume his porn career?

It will be interesting to see if these former sponsored poker pro's will still continue to travel and enter poker tournaments or just retire completely.

Are they really willing to gamble with their own money?

It could be the gay angle or the thousands of hours he's put in to promote poker in the last few years (twitch, youtube, runitup.com and other stuff).

I for one who solely view poker as fun and entertaining, agree..on some link off of poker scout it said that poker stars loses too many members..there was another link that said poker itself is dying and that it will revert to chess club status if they don't market themselves to rec players and get new people to want to learn poker..they said that there was a problem of the pre 2005 type grinders just chasing people away..just saying....
