That would really make the "collect pieces" thing a sham, but at least would be more fair, as people will be able to win the big prizes without trading pieces.
Of course, the prize you won had no semi-rare pieces, so that also might be why they did that.

No never met anyone but my local albertsons had pictures up of everyone who had won, out of those posted there were several that worked at that albertsons, pictured in their uniform. A little suspicious maybe?
My local Albertsons ran out of tickets about a month before the cutoff, probably explains why so many cashiers from there had won prizes.It depends on what you consider money. I don't know anyone that's won a large or even a medium sized prize. But I have won instant cash prizes, online gift cards, instant gift cards, collect and win gift cards, and free products. Between Sunday and today I've won products totaling about $40-$50, a $5 instant gift card, about 10 free Redbox rentals, and several cash coupons (one $2 off $20, two $5 off $50, and one $10 off $100). The biggest prize I've ever won was a $50 gift card. Including all of the free products, Redbox, small cash/gift card prizes, & money off of purchases I would say I win at least $100 each time they run the game. The secret that I have found is play the online game but save up the codes towards the end of the game because they'll double, triple, or even quadruple the tickets in order to get rid of them by the end of the game.
It does seem to have some scam-like qualities. If you read the rules it says if no one wins any of the 6 top prizes (3 $1,000,000 cash annuities and 3 $500,000 vacation homes) there will be a second chance drawing for one $500,000 cash prize. Since the semi-rare piece for any of these prizes might be at an Albertsons in Texas and the rare piece might be at a Jewel-Osco in Naperville, chances are no one's going to win one of those six prizes; so instead of having to give away $4,500,000, they will most likely only have to give away $500,000. Plus, if you add up all the prizes listed in their rules it only comes to $25,245,369 which is less than half of the $80,000,000 in bold red on the face of the tickets. So apparently the 54,745,631 difference is supposed to come from the money saving offers. But that's a bit disingenuous because I have 50+ $1.00 off Pete's K-cups coupons that are worthless to me because 1)I don't own a Keurig & 2)even if I did, I wouldn't need 50 of them between Feb & June. But that $50 still counts towards the $80,000,000 total.
All in all I would say it's not a scam, though. It's not like you're buying something just to get the ticket; you have to buy groceries anyway, so why not buy them from a store that rewards you for doing so? I do think that less people play now that it's not just Albertsons. So much so that when I walked in the door of an Albertsons at 10 pm tonight (the last day of the game) to simply redeem a instant win game piece for a pack of gum I was asked if I played Monopoly and when I said yes I was handed hundreds of tickets. I bought my gum, got my triple bonus tickets for doing so, and was then given at least 100 more because they had so many left and had to have them all gone by midnight.

My Albertsons gave me a box of 500 on the last day. We got a 105 that I will reluctantly part with for the mere sum of $99.
It does seem odd that out of the 1000 or more cards i opened the most i got was a free redbox, bottle of grape juice, and some cat food.

OK, I just got the "winners List" reply from the contest. There were lots of little prizes and a few of the larger ones, notably 2 each $50,000 and 1 each $100,000. They gave out the "second chance drawing prize" of $500,000 to one person.
In this internet age, I find it very suspicious that of all the people who got the very rare pieces for the BIG prizes, none of them was savvy enough to advertise on-line and acquire the semi-rare piece. I saw lots of people at the checkout line who didn't play the game, so I find it VERY hard to believe any rare pieces where handed out and then thrown away without looking at them. So IF those pieces were ever handed out, someone got and saved them (for a while).
I suppose there's still a lot of people who haven't figured out they can just go on-line to find out whether or not they've got a really good piece and if so acquire the rest they need. But it sure seems unlikely. And since all the stores handed out every piece they had near the end of the game, it just seems ultra suspicious there weren't any really big winners...
