So while we wait for the NFL playoff lines to reveal themselves later this week ...

BnP & Lew, what is your position on Matthew Stafford. He has one year left and typically this is when teams lock the guy up. You guys gonna throw record money and 5 more years at this second tier guy?

Lew ain't getting any younger. The excruciating pain is aging him rapidly.

Stafford was always Tony Romo in my mind.

I love this article coming out of ground zero, Detroit.

Predicting what the Detroit Lions are going to do is difficult. They should fire Caldwell but they probably won't because them making the playoffs is looked at as an accomplishment compared to most seasons.

I can't really say about Stafford but their aren't a lot of elite QBs out there on the market which is why teams are overpaying for second tier ones.

In other news I saw this cool prank on a Michigan walk on basketball player today where he thinks he's in trouble for a minute then gets some great news.

As we all know the Lions are possibly one of the worst run franchises in american sports history, so naturally they'll sign him to a mega deal that you're proposing. Remember how they handled the Suh contract? Horrific and you know the guy isn't coming back so you at least deal him for value right? lol SAME OL LIONS (SOL)

For as Tony Romo'ish that Stafford appears to be the question is who's better? They aren't likely to get a stud QB in the draft this year either at #21 so you're forced to sign him. Not to mention he has made the playoffs 2 of the last 3 years. How often can Lions qbs say that? This is also why the Lions should have snapped off Caldwell and promote Jim Bob Cooter but they won't because he's made the playoffs twice now w/the lions.

Even OSA could provide some good alternatives to hamstringing your whole future dollar-wise.

Stafford in year 5 of his 8 year deal.

Jimmy G has never lost an NFL game.

But for realz, you have to stick it out with Stafford. And start drafting some QB's now.

Stafford is a great quarterback. The problem is finding a competent coach.

Obv this isn't a heads up comparison but a functional step back for rebuilding while staying competitive.

You can stick with the status quo or use the money elsewhere. You know what you got and it never worked.

Get a kid who can play within a system and doesn't wing it from his hip. Stafford's decision making and faith in his athleticism have always been suspect and it's too late for him to change.

It's not going to happen, it's a lock that the lions sign him to something ridiculous. Ask Daly where he can find that player prop.

These 2 teams are over machines. The books know it but why not run it til it fails

That kind of in depth of analysis makes this a stupidity wagering worthy post

    Mobile - Basketball - NBA - 704 Washington Wizards/Boston Celtics over 217½ -110 for Game

Will save one bullet for any early in game bargains on the total. No more.

    Detroit/Golden State tomorrow bears watching.

Stafford is not the problem IMO. i hope they do sign him.

the coach on the other hand, lol, should've been shitcanned earlier this season.

Caldwell is god awful, I've been saying you better promote Jim Bob Cooter while you can before he gets snapped off. I already heard Teryl Austin is shopping around looking for jobs.

Things that hurt the lions / stafford this year was the finger injury and riddick going down on the IR.

    Ebron dropping passes as well.

Massive mistake drafting Ebron obviously. Only one way to find out if he's ready to be HC. But do you really want Caldwell to hang around for multiple years because he backs into the playoffs?

    Guys with 2 first names

Lee Harvey Oswald, James Earl Ray, Mark David Chapman, John Wilkes Booth, Billy Ray Cyrus

Just give Jim Bob Cooter a gun and resolve the question for good

Also this is a popular drop from Valenti And Foster which basically slams the lions and caldwell any chance they get.

It's almost impossible to judge a Garoppolo when he's coached by Belichick. You can't win if you sign him. If he's good enough to retain with Brady turning 40 next year, Belichick would find a way to keep him.

It's like trade day every year when Belichick trades down. If he offers a deal, you don't want it, because if he's offering it, it's bad for you.

Belichick has reached that rarified air where you just assume he's way smarter than you and have no dealings with him or any player he's coached. If they were any good, he'd still have them. Don't hire any coach of his. It's not them, it's him that's responsible for the success. I once calculated the guys who got rich for standing next to Brady and Peyton and it was over $200 million, and they were almost all failures. With the Patriots, it's BB and Brady. I felt this way about the Cardinals in baseball trades also, where after decades of sustained success, you just don't want to be involved with them in any way.

The Lions are like the Browns where how good Stafford is hardly matters. If he stays, it won't work out. If he goes, he'll lead the Broncos or Houston or whomever to a SB. If they sign him, his early career injury concerns will reemerge. If he goes, he'll be healthy.

It isn't like the NBA where a transcendent talent can elevate generational organizational idiocy.
