Did they really have a union? For their last several years they were rarely even in the studio together.

Take any Beatles record and the McCartney songs are better than the Lennon songs.

if youre going to call mccartney a genius then at some you have to qualify it by saying his brand of genius was appealing to the masses.

    that said, lennon? meh...

    The answer is neither/both.

But really, it's probably Paul. There's a handful of Lennon songs that are probably my very favorites, but the next 30 favs are Paul songs.

    How's that for a non-answer?

    Better at what?

Both are great bands, but overall it's really not even close. The Beatles were the most innovative, important band in the history of rock-n-roll.

U2 was and is a great band, but it really ends there. IMHO though, as far as studio recordings they stopped being great after The Unforgettable Fire.

Okay, I'll agree with the groupthink assertion that the Beatles were the most innovative band in rock n' roll history. But, Pink Floyd made better music during a relatively similar timeframe.

Considering I personally feel that Pink Floyd is the greatest band in history I am inclined to agree.

I doubt the average 40yo on the street could name 5 Pink Floyd songs. Them same people would probably recognise 20+ beatles songs

Pink Floyd, unarguably great, but compared to what? I may be wrong but I think the Beatles are proven the most successful, popular band. period. So there's that. Personal preferences abound but facts are facts and then there is sense and sensibility.

Id take Pink Floyd over The Beatles all day erry day but I also understand that a lot of people find Pink Floyd challenging or inaccessible or aloof.

Who cares what an average dumbass can name?

Does anyone care about a Pink Floyd album that isn't Dark Side or the Wall, or maybe Wish You Were Here? I like that stuff, but there's another 10 albums of either post Roger Waters crap or early records consisting of Syd Barrett jerking off. There's a few high points, but overall, nothing special.

I'll take the Kinks if we are picking English bands from the 60's. Their pop stuff was great, their theme records are compelling and the band has a edge that the Beatles just didn't have.

Legit not a huge fan of those.

Meddle is my shit, and Live at Pompeii is the only thing I would take on a one way trip to Mars.
