How weird that I mention Six Flags Magic Mountain in an unrelated post, and then about an hour later see this unfortunate news story:
http://hometownstation.com/santa-cla...close-colossus
Colossus is a classic wooden rollercoaster from the late 1970s, and is actually quite fun (even by today's standards), though it lacks the crazy twists and turns you see in the more extreme coasters these days.
No idea why they're closing it. I know it suffers from maintenance problems at times, but that's always been the case. Shortly after it opened in the 1970s, an obese woman flew out of it and died, because the seatbelt didn't lock on her properly. That was when they invented the requirement to disallow people with "unusual body types" from riding rollercoasters.
I kind of want to make it out to Magic Mountain one more time before August 16th to ride it again, though honestly much of the park is now filled with rides that I'm probably too old to handle without getting sick. Colossus never got me sick, though.
