Sleep Apnea. It's a silent killer.

Breathing pauses can last from a few seconds to minutes. They may occur 30 times or more an hour. Typically, normal breathing then starts again, sometimes with a loud snort or choking sound.

Thankfully I do not have it. Mostly it's do to overweight, and smoking. Most people that have sleep apnea die a life very soon, like south of 50.

BUMP

I finally had a sleep study in December 2018, and got the news I had suspected for decades. Diagnosis: Obstructive Sleep Apnea. After procrastinating for 18 more months, I finally bought a CPAP machine and nasal mask last week. What sucks is that because I waited so long, I likely caused damage to myself such as Type 2 diabetes, slight hearing loss, and tinnitus. Also, I had severe abdominal pain in 2016 and had my gallbladder removed. Being overweight and never exercising no doubt had a lot to do with it, too. To boot, I had my first (and hopefully last) full-blown anxiety attack last month.

I have never smoked, and rarely drink, though. No drugs, either. So at least I have that going for me. I just hope I didn't shorten my life by too much. My grandfather lived to be 82, and my Dad is 77 and still going strong. I don't care too much for wearing that mask every night, so hopefully I'll get used to it. It's either that, or likely die within 10 years, so I'm biting the bullet for the greater good.
