How have my last 24 hours been?
WARNING: Moderately gross stuff below. Close thread if eating.
I had just driven from Harrah's Rincon to Vegas (about 290 miles) and we arrived at around 2am. Benjamin and his mom were also with me.
Got to bed around 4. I have always had a drink of something before bed since I was a little kid. For some reason, last night I had no desire for that.
Ben, who slept most of the drive, woke up at 9:30. I felt REALLY tired and didn't understand it, since I get 5-6 hours of sleep many nights and feel completely fine.
I also was not thirsty at all, and had no desire to drink anything despite not having anything for hours before bed.
I also had terrible diarrhea.
Around noon I told Ben's mom that I was too fatigued to do anything and they left to go eat.
At this point I was delusional enough to think I would make it to the bank by 2pm closing for something I needed to do there.
I forced myself to take a few sips of water and went to sleep.
20 minutes later, I woke up and threw up 5 times. At this point I knew I was in for a lot of trouble. I clearly had the stomach flu and had it severe enough to where I could not keep liquids down.
I also threw up 8 more times.
Soon dehydration set in, and I was unable to walk more than a few steps. I also developed a fever and had terrible chills. I was very close to going to the ER, but the ER is a nightmare and I avoid it like the plague. In the back of my mind was Jim Henson (Muppets creator) who also hated ERs, and refused to go to the hospital with flu-like symptoms, only to find out too late that he had something severe and died within days.
I knew that mine was likely gastroenteritis and, while called "stomach flu", is not actually related to the flu.
I did know that failure to keep liquids down for 24 or more hours with gastroenteritis can kill you, so I said I'd go to the ER if this persisted throughout the evening.
In the afternoon I was able to get Gatorade down (Ben's mom bought it for me) and according to tons of stuff I read on the internet, was pretty much the sign that I would soon be recovering, though it might take a few days.
I still hadn't peed yet the entire day.
But it wasn't anywhere near over.
I threw up 2 more times at 7:30. I was feeling worse than ever. Very close to going to the ER.
The scariest moment was at around 11pm. I had gotten a lot of Gatorade down over the past few hours and was starting to feel better, though I hadn't tested my ability to walk (I was too dizzy to walk throughout the entire day).
I felt like I had to pee which was a great sign.
I went to the bathoom, and while peeing, felt an amazing dizzy spell come on.
I tried to make it back to bed but became quickly disoriented. I called out to Ben's mom and fainted, slamming hard against the floor. I had never fainted in my life prior to this.
I was on the ground for the next 15 seconds, unconscious but making a weird moan. Ben's mom was about to call 911 when I came to, finding myself on the floor, and in fact hearing the end of my own moaning. She wanted to call an ambulance but I just went back to bed and felt ok, aside from the inability to walk and some pain from the fall.
I have since slept on and off and have been able to get a lot more Gatorade down. I have been able to get up and walk short distances but very cautiously.
Ben also caught this at night and threw up a few times, though his body is not having the severe reactions that mine is. He throws up and feels great within minutes. He has been sleeping for hours now and seems fine for the most part.
I think all of the colds I've had recently (including the one I had on radio 2 weeks ago) depressed my immune system, allowing this to get much worse than it otherwise would.
My left rib hurts immensely and I think I either broke/cracked/bruised it from the fall. I will deal with this when I get better.
I am only posting here because I have slept so much that I can't anymore, and I need a diversion.
Good chance there will be no radio this week.
After 2 years of hardly getting sick at all (and recovering very quickly the few times I did), these last 4 weeks have been awful, with yesterday being the absolute worst I've ever experienced.
Don't cock bomb the forum while I recover.
When I get better I will tell an LOL customer service story about Godaddy trying to extort $75 from me involving this site.
Damn Rincon is a filthy place and gave this to me. Caesar's corporation getting the last laugh on me after all of the bashing I do.
