In case you don't know Jungleman is quite an interesting character. This podcast covers some stories about JM.
Starts 14:03 but go backwards if you want some more JM -- he really loves ice cream:

I still can't get over that Achilles shit. Penalizing for mispronunciation of names is such a sticky slope. How many foreign names are there that newscasters pronounce way differently than that person would pronounce his or her own name?
With that said in the second two clips he n-worded it up something fierce.
I hear your point and it is noted and makes me think about the situation. Mispronunciation can in fact be a sticky slope.
I don't know, I guess I would think someone has to draw the line somewhere either way. Im sure the show, like any other shows where you have to enunciate something, may have some minor leeway but no matter how you slice it, you really have to draw the line somewhere.
if there were no line drawn, then could you imagine the potential clusterfuck of show candidates who shouldn't have passed the second grade, going and rattling off words that would make others think that the dude is clearly smoking some A+ crack
All of the bullshit aside, I would think that part of solving a word sentence would involve being able to actually mimic the english language enough that people would understand what you are saying
I am imagining for a moment how this would play out if the roles were reversed and the show was being played in another country. I can certainly imagine a similar outcome
Enter the Japanese game show with Chris Farley ( I don't know where I can get a link that I can embed properly) :

Kind of funny that the college drew up an article regarding that their college member would be on WOF. According to the piece, they were even arranging for a screening at the college for everyone to attend....im sure that must have gone over spectacularly.
