    Engine code APP

This looks like a pretty useful tool: http://www.automatic.com/

Plugs into the standardized diagnostic port on cars and sends information to your iphone. Displays any check engine codes with explanation and also analyzes other available information to help you determine if car is running optimally. No monthly fee, might be useful.

I saw the sme thing not too long ago, but all of my mobile electronics are android so I ordered this setup last week. It hasn't come in yet so I can't comment on it, but the price is very good if the software works as well as the reviews say.

That looks even better for what I would want. Give it a review once you have a chance to use it.

Have you had a chance to try this out yet? I just bought it yesterday and am waiting on delivery of the Dongle. I went with a bit more expensive obd2 adapter so i could get amazon prime shipping

yes they will check them for free but 99% of the time they will not clear them out since it is a liability issue. The app that shortbus linked to has a lot more features than just reading codes out as well. I like the fact that I can share the data with my mechanic without even going to see him and getting charged a service fee for the diagnostic service
