    myVegas

    Anybody playing this on Facebook?

My wife has been playing this & she has won enough that we are getting a $50 credit @ Nine Fine Irishmen @ NYNY, a $50 dining/beverage credit at Monte Carlo. & 2 show tickets to the Brad Garrett Comedy Club for our upcoming trip. These were now some of the hardest rewards to get according to some other forums I frequent.

I laughed at her when she started playing this but now I have to eat my words. Anybody else have any experience with this?

I could see this happening. I laughed at her thinking it was a waste of time but I ended up getting 3 of the hardest to get rewards I soon changed my tune. It`s a fucking addictive game too. I can see how people get addicted to slots.

They sell chip packages but they give you them for free inside game. MGM properties post free chip links every day on facebook.

I dont do Facebook so I have been playing it on my wife's account. I spend probably 20 minutes a day total either playing or just harvesting coins and I now am at level 119 and have 195k lps. I plan to use it for the $150 Circus Circus steakhouse cert the next time I am in town.

You can buy chips for as little as $5, but if you are smart and run it up playing blackjack you dont need to. The point is to try and squeeze some free shit out of the casinos anyway right?

Well how much time did that take to accumulate?
    The food comps sound great,

I'm just having a hard time digesting that a Brad Garrett stand up show is the highest prize, (or that tickets would be hard to get.)
    I'd trade that.

What I really meant was that it was a show for 2. We got this & have never seen another show for 2 since even though they were common a couple months back. They are all 1 show ticket now for all shows.

The Nine Fine Irishmen reward used to be $100 & gets snapped up immediately as does the Monte Carlo dining credit which is only offered to players level 80 & above.

The rewards were really getting abused earlier on & they scaled it back because people were paying for their whole Vegas vacation with these instead of supplementing it.

Yah. Played that game a little bit in the background when I was working on my computer. Bought show tickets with the points, and sold them on craigslist for $500

As one of the greatest myVegas players in history, I thought I'd drop some knowledge on this thread.

First of all, to answer the question of whether it is worth it to play myVegas for comps, I'd say that depends on the individual. For a low-roller like myself (1/2 poker, $10 bets at table games), it's worth it to get a few extra comps on my Vegas vacations. I usually go to Vegas twice per year and started playing myVegas last January. I've already redeemed 6 comps through myVegas:

-2 free premium seats to Zarkana (The face value on these tickets was a total of $340. Soon after I redeemed points for these tickets, myVegas nearly doubled the number of points to redeem this prize. The seats were amazing - 3rd row, center. Unfortunately, the show was not great.)
    -One free night at Aria
-One free night at Circus Circus (lolz)
-2 for 1 frozen cocktails at Monte Carlo
-Beer and dinner pairing at the Pub (Monte Carlo)
    -Buffet pass at Aria

Before I get into tips, here's a very brief rundown of how the game works:

myVegas is a free app on facebook. The goal of the game is to build casinos (all MGM properties) on an animated recreation of the Strip. There are three types of points in the game:

-XPs: Top middle of the screen. You collect XPs with every bet that you make on the slots or blackjack games. Higher bets = more XPs. You "level up" every time you achieve a certain number of XPs.

-Chips: Top of screen, second from right. You bet with chips and win/lose them as you play the games. You can harvest chips by clicking on the hotels on the Strip at intervals. You get a daily spin in which you get a certain number of free chips. You get bonus chips for every level up. You can also gain chips by clicking on facebook links (more on that later).

-LPs: Top right of the screen. Loyalty Points are the gold coins. These are what you use to redeem comps. You get LPs as you make bets with your chips, every time you level up, and occasionally when you harvest chips from your hotels and your daily free spin.

In my next post, I'll give some general rules to follow for success in myVegas.

Rule #1: Never pay for chips. myVegas makes money by selling chips to rubes. Every time you open the app you'll see half a dozen annoying pop-ups offering you chips "deals." Some of the packages cost up to $200. It amazes me that there are people who pay for chips when the goal is to get free comps. There is no reason to ever drop dime one on this ridiculous game.

For most, this game will be mildly amusing at first. However, the novelty wears off quickly and it will become super boring - especially once you are done building all the hotels and there is no objective other than to level up. When you start playing, it will be a grind. You don't have access to many chips and you are trying to build hotels in order to have access to more chips, etc. Also, you have to constantly click to make bets. As you level up you get the ability to play the slots on auto-spin for more and more spins (e.g., 10 auto-spins, 25, 50, 100, 200).

I forget what level you unlock 200 auto-spins, but that is your ultimate goal. By the time you unlock that feature, you'll be sick of the game and you'll want to put in as little mental energy as possible. 200 auto-spins allows you to let the game run in the background as you do whatever else on your computer. The bad news is that it takes some time and effort to get to that point, the good news is once you get there the game becomes a mindless way to accumulate LPs for some decent comps.

Before you start playing, you will want to have facebook friends who also play the game. When you have a friend who plays the game, you can send and receive small chips "gifts" with them every day, and your daily free spin is multiplied with the more friends you have who play. However, this multiplier maxes out at 50 friends. That's why I would suggest finding exactly 50 friends who play the game. An easy way to get them is to join this group on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/friendsofmyvegas/

Word of warning, 90% of the people who populate this group are legitimately insane. These people are crazy for myVegas. You can tell from their posts that they have an unhealthy obsession with the game. They mostly post to ask questions about comps, complain about the game or cost of comps ("I have spent $500 on chips and they keep raising the prices of comps!"), and even offer conspiracy theories about the game (e.g., "The Lucky Birds games is totally rigged. Here is my statistical analysis of my past 100,000 spins."). I worry for these people.

There's a thread in that group where you can request friends. Just add a comment in that thread (e.g., "Please add me!") and you'll be bombarded with friend requests. I would not recommend making friend requests to others. Only accept friend requests. When you accept the friend request, indicate that you know the person outside of facebook, otherwise they will be flagged as a possible spammer (this is why you shouldn't friend request other people because you never know if they'll say they know you outside of facebook and you could end up in what they call "facebook jail" - kind of like a facebook suspension). Once you've accumulated 50 friends, I'd stop because there are diminishing returns for more than 50 friends (very nominal daily gifts and links to small amounts of chips). If you're like me, you don't want these 50 new "friends" to have access your normal facebook stuff, so you should create a new "group" of friends that has limited access to anything other than your games and slot them all in there.

Next, get an app on facebook called "Game Feeds" which will allow you to collect free chips from your myVegas friends with a click of a button. As you play the game, occasionally it will ask you if you want to "share" an accomplishment (big win, level up, daily bonus, etc.) with your friends. If you share it, a notice will show up on their news feed with a link to collect a certain amount of chips (usually 101 or 201). You can change the settings so that you only "share" with your myVegas friends (you'll want to do this so that your real friends don't get pissed at you for cluttering up their newsfeeds with this nonsense). With "Game Feeds," all of the free chip links will show up in one place where you can click once and collect them all (Note: some of these links expire or get swooped up by the first few people who click on them. If someone has tons of friends who play the game, they'll be claimed within minutes. They're small amounts of chips anyways, I'd recommend just trying to collect from Game Feeds once per day).

You can also collect larger bonus chips (usually 1,000 or 2,000) by clicking on the plethora of links posted in one of the threads in the myVegas Friends group ("Large Chip Share").

Using the above guidelines, you can get heaps of free chips without even playing the game and with very little effort. Again, if you pay for chips you need your head checked.

In the next post, I'll give some playing tips.

For the most part, these "free" games on facebook are a huge waste of time. I shudder to think about the number of global man hours lost to Farmville and Candy Crush. It's fucking shameful. Accordingly, you want to minimize the amount of cognitive effort you put into myVegas. You're trying to win free comps with very little time and energy. As I mentioned earlier, when you're just starting out, it's way more time consuming as you have to keep making bets manually. You'll also find that a new goal always seems to be barely within reach - a new level is only X amount of XPs away, a new hotel is only 1 or 2 "myVegas symbols" away, etc. They also build in weekly promotions to establish even more goals. For example, they might have a "scavenger hunt" in which you need to gain a certain number of icons that come up as you play slots to unlock a prize of a large lump sum of chips. This is how they get suckers to buy chips. Don't fall for this ploy. There are so many mini-goals within the game it will always feel like you're "almost there - if I only had a few more chips!". When you run out of chips, shut it down and come back the next day.

As of this writing there are 12 slot games and 1 table game (blackjack). Stay away from blackjack. That's a no-brainer if you're looking to minimize effort because it requires decisions for every bet. Also -- and I realize the veracity of these claims are suspect -- there are rumblings among the cult at myVegas Friends that even with basic strategy the blackjack game is not straight. At first the slots are somewhat interesting, but they quickly become repetitive. Also, a few of them are copies of each other with different graphics or minor differences in the bonus games. You might think that for a free game the slots would be relatively loose - alas, they are a harsh mistress. They are definitely negative EV and you can lose chips very quickly (again, so that you'll buy chips). All games have some kind of bonus round so even when you unlock high numbers of auto-spins you will need to check periodically to manually complete the bonus rounds. Theories vary in terms of which slots are the best to play and people have seriously conducted statistical analyses of the games. However, for all we know, myVegas is constantly changing the EV of each game and/or making payouts contingent on various individual factors (e.g., whether you've purchased chips, size of your bets, how many chips you have left). It's probably best not to worry about that and just play whatever game you can tolerate until your chips run out.

It'll take a while but eventually you will build all of your hotels on the Strip. At that point, you'll have access to a ton of chips on a daily basis through harvesting them at the hotels, daily spin bonus, friend gifts and shares, and links to large chip shares. I can usually get at least 50,000 free chips every day. If you get lucky on a daily spin you can collect over 100,000 chips on one spin (by the way, you get a multiplier for not only having friends who play the game but also for playing the game on consecutive days - this is why you should open the game at least once per day if only to get your free daily spin). To put that into perspective, myVegas charges $19 for 55,000 chips (and $39 for 120,000). That's insane. 1 million chips costs $200. I've had over a million chips on multiple occasions just from saving them for a week or so and when I've gone to play them I've lost them in a matter of an hour.

Rule #2: Once all of your hotels are built, bet at least 1000 chips per spin. By this point you will have unlocked 200 auto-spins. However, you will also be at a level where it is harder to accumulate LPs with your bets. Every few bets you'll notice that you gain 10 LPs. That seems insignificant but it adds up. Once you reach a certain level (I forget which one), it takes many more spins to get those 10 LPs if you are betting below 1000. You will optimize your LPs by betting at least 1000 chips per spin. If you bet any less, it probably means you don't have many chips. That's why I suggest following this guideline once your hotels are built because you really have nothing to shoot for at that point except to continue to level up. Blast off your chips with bets of at least 1000 and when they run out, shut it down and collect free chips for a few days. Which leads to the next rule...

Rule #3: Again, after all your hotels are built, ONLY play when there is a "Double XP" promotion. Every week or so (and sometimes for a couple hours each night), myVegas awards double XPs for each of your bets. This is when you need to hammer away on the slots. Save up your chips and when it's "Double XP" time, just blast them off betting at least 1000 per spin. As you get to the higher levels, it takes an incredible number of XPs to level up. You get 1000 LPs every time you level up. So only play when you'll earn twice the XPs for every bet you make and you'll move up levels faster. It's foolish to play any other time. If there's no "Double XP" promotion for a while, resist the temptation to play, just keep collecting, and when the time comes you'll have a massive amount of chips to shoot off.

That's it. For those who are thinking about getting started, that should give you an idea of a basic strategy for myVegas. And if you've ever purchased chips for this game you are dead to me.

In the next post I'll make some comments about redeeming comps.

When you're just starting out and you look at all of the potential rewards on myVegas, it's going to feel like it will take an eternity to earn enough LPs for anything good. It's really a slow and steady build but before you know it you'll have enough LPs to get some decent comps. Note: there are different redemption rules for Las Vegas locals - if you are a local, read up on those rules before wasting your time on the game.

A word of warning, myVegas is constantly changing not only the rewards available, but also the cost of LPs to redeem the rewards and actual rules around redeeming rewards. For example, at one time you could redeem as many rewards as you wanted, but now can only redeem up to 3 rewards within a 90-day period (you can redeem 4 if you have purchased chips which may be the only legitimate reason to make a single minimum purchase of chips), and you may not redeem more than one of the same reward. So you have to be judicious when deciding on which rewards to redeem. Availability and prices of rewards are constantly in flux. If a given reward becomes popular, it may be very difficult to redeem because they only stock a limited number per day and they get snapped up as soon as they are restocked. You can read about strategies for redeeming popular rewards on the myVegas Friends thread on facebook. Furthermore, myVegas has been known to completely remove rewards or jack up the price of LPs for redemption. This is why I would not pick out a reward that I want and work towards it because you are likely to be disappointed by the time you earn enough LPs - the cost to redeem may have either gone up significantly or it may no longer be available. Instead, just keep earning LPs and when you are ready to plan your Vegas trip, redeem the rewards that appeal to you most at that moment (unless you're very close to earning enough LPs for a reward you really want).

Obviously, it's easy enough to determine how much a reward is worth in dollars to see how much value you're getting for your LPs for different rewards. Whichever reward you want to redeem is a matter of personal taste, but some rewards are such laughably bad value that it doesn't take a genius to figure out which ones to ignore (e.g., 166,000 LPs for 35% off a Bellagio room is a complete joke when you consider that you can get a free night at Aria for 99,000 LPs). At one time they had a reward of "Choose the Bellagio Fountain song" for 1,000,000 LPs! Shockingly, someone actually redeemed that reward. That's a shit-ton of LPs to spend on the privilege to choose to hear "Proud to Be an American" while water dances. I hope those three-minutes of control were worth it. Currently they're offering an unlimited 1-year pass on the LV Monorail for 1.4 million LPs. That one is a head-scratcher.

All the buffet passes and many of the shows seem to be pretty good value. If you spend most of your LPs on one or two expensive rewards, and you know you aren't planning on making another Vegas trip within a 90-day window, you might as well max out your 3 redemption-limit and throw in a small reward like passes to the Secret Garden at Mirage or 2-for-1 coupons for various food and beverage.

The redemption process is pretty self-explanatory, but note that you'll need an MLife card. If you don't have one you can sign up for one online.

Because of facebook groups like "myVegas Friends" and people like me who post tips on how to get the most out of myVegas without spending anything but a little bit of time each day, the game will continue to tighten up. More people are playing the game which means demand for rewards will continue to increase and they'll keep jacking up the price of rewards. And who knows, they may even tighten up the slots so you lose your chips faster. If you want to discuss that possibility you can join the tin-foil hat squad over at myVegas Friends. That said, for the time being I would recommend playing myVegas for free comps. Follow the guidelines I've posted. Never spend a nickel on it. Play daily but expend minimal time and effort actually playing. I've redeemed about $700 worth of comps in less than a year and I plan on milking this thing until it's no longer worthwhile.

I hope you have found these posts helpful.

Lots of great advice Shrink & thanks for taking the time to post.

    3 things to add:

you no longer get a fourth reward for buying $5 worth of chips. I know because I tried it. I heard the threshhold is now $50 worht of chips which will never happen by me.

Blackjack is by far the best game to play even though you only get half credit of XP points per bet. I only started playing it after all the hotels were built, so it may have been unbelievably tedious before that, but it's the fasted way to level up & gain LP's & chips. It's also a great way to practice basic strategy for when you are really at the BJ tables in a casino.

They've capped the LP's to 2000 per day while playing the games. This 2000 does not include the 1000 LP's every level up or the ones you sometimes get from the strip or on your daily spin. After you achieve the 2000 through play there is absolutely no sense in continuing to play that day.

Interesting - I didn't know that. Further evidence that myVegas is liable to change their rules at any moment!

Yeah, assuming that it's a straight BJ game, the house edge for basic strategy is no doubt way lower than the house edge for all the slot games. As long as you lose your chips at a rate that's less than half the rate you lose at slots, that makes up for the half credited XPs per bet. However, if you're looking to minimize the amount of mental energy you put into myVegas, BJ should obviously be avoided. If you enjoy BJ, then all the better. Now if they'd only make a Pai Gow game...

Excellent point. I've only reached this cap a few times because it requires a massive number of bets and 99% of the time I'll run out of chips before I reach the limit. One time I didn't notice for a while and I probably went through 400 spins without getting any extra LPs which is a waste. So if you've played a lot one day, keep your eyes peeled to make sure you know when to stop playing.
