From biggest winner ever to broke. He did have to chop the score which he tried to get out of and I don't think he said the specific settlement terms but I wouldn't be surprised if it was at least 30% of if if not half which after you pay taxes he should have been left with around $4 million or so.

He played I think twice on High Stakes Poker but otherwise he mostly played Live $5/10 NL so that would be a ton of money to blow through on poker alone which he clearly didn't do. Jamie must have spent the money in other ways (hella kilos of blow) to go into financial hardship which is a shame. His Dad was really sick I remember while he was playing it so who knows what kind of medical expenses he spent on his father.

Some poker players might say a bracelet is meaningless to them why not just sell it for more cash? Well this isn't just any regular bracelet like the 60 others won at the WSOP each year this is from the largest main event in WSOP history. Nobody sells this bracelet unless they are broke.

I know people will compare Peter Eastgate selling his to Jamie Gold but Gold's bracelet is more prestigious. Peter Eastgate sold his main event bracelet for charity because he had personal reasons and was legitimately leaving poker even though he came back like two years later .

It is one thing to win all that money and lose it. It is another to lose it all and then sell off bracelet/watch. My pride wouldn't allow me to do that. I would off myself first. How much can he really expect to get for that crap anyway?

These people that win big scores in the main event will never learn. It is really no different than the people who hit jackpots on slot machines and then continue to do it again and then lose it all back. Sure there is some skill involved but in a field of 7000 a lot of it is just like playing a giant roulette wheel.

There are a lot of poker fan boys out there that get excited with these guys. There are actually people that look up to guys like Phil Helmuth, dress like him, buy his fucking books.

There are a lot of stupid people out there, so I can easily see a fan boy dropping 6 figures on some Jamie Gold shit.

Is there a thread from the past detailing Jamie Gold's demise? I've always known he became super degen but never read about it.

I stopped watching WSOP after his win partially because I was so turned off by his antics.

Who the hell would shell out cash for poker 'relics'?

Eastgate's bracelet, I think, was sold and proceeds were sent to the unicef charity.

Eastgate is not busto, but it looks like Yang and Gold are both confirmed busto, joining Dutch Boyd, Erik Lindgren, and Layne Flack, as bracelet winners who've gone broke, ...among countless others.

You are probably right about IRS. Or of course he could just be making it up to save face and needs rent money. Or maybe this is the last thing he needs to settle with the guy he tried to fuck out of half the winnings

Has anyone else noticed how awful some of these washed up poker players look in these interviews? I understand that aging is natural but none of these guys look healthy at all.

The boat casinos he is pimping aren't going to do all that well. There is already poker in Florida and there are rooms all over the place including the Palm Beach Kennel Club. They do already have a boat in Palm beach but anyone who goes out on that is there to bet sports and play craps. And in a few short years the Casinos will have craps so I can't imagine an investment in a casino boat is a good idea.... but I've been wrong before.

As for the bracelet - sad story. It's a well known symbol of what should be one of the bigger events in this guys life. No way he is selling it unless he is busto.

He could be lying, obv, but he specifically said it wasn't the ME.
He said the IRS won't let him write off losing sessions against his winning sessions??? some BS like that.

He probably didn't keep records of these losing sessions. If you're going to write off losing sessions you better have good records of it. He probably got audited, found out he needed a journal documenting these wins/loses & made it up on the spot from memory. That won't fly with the IRS.

Jamie Gold's bracelet sold for $65k. I thought they might get a little more then that considering he won the biggest main event field ever and that Peter Eastgate's went for more then twice that even though his was going towards charity.
