The Russian Supreme Court has recently passed the Bill on Life Isolation of Pedophiles, which places offenders in isolated reservations for the rest of their lives.
Senator Yevgeny Tarlo of the Federation Council of Tambov Oblast created the bill to place pedophiles in reservations after their release from prison. The bill will now be presented to the legislature of the Federal Assembly of Russia aka the State Duma.
Tarlo prepared the document this past summer, but took the bill to the Supreme Court in order to make sure that the idea did not violate the rights of citizens. He also wanted make sure that it would not lead to possible litigation.
The bill would separate pedophiles from society for the rest of their lives. After being released from prison, the offenders would be moved into special colonies/settlements. From there they can go about their lives as they wish, even though they are isolated from the general Russian population. Tarlo elaborates:
This is not exile, they will be able to be with their families, friends, but they will be under supervision. They will have to constantly register themselves and will not be able to commit the repeat offenses or get lost in a big city. It is the offender and not the victim who must bear the consequences. It often happens that victims are children from disadvantaged families. They can’t afford to move to another location. And every time meeting with the molester living down the street – would traumatize the child.
