Nine-ball pool is the only American sport I really understand. Today is the start of the Mosconi cup - an annual competition between teams from USA and Europe.
Europe have a credible team having won the last 2 competitions and 4 of the last 5. USA bossed it in the early years and lead 16 to 11 overall.
Anyone else follow this?

why does earl strickland never play this anymore?
Guy's a fucking psycho. Great entertainment but not exactly a team player and prone to uber tilt.
Picking a fight with the referees was a -ev play.
I think the main reason is he's not actually that good any more.

I used to watch it sometimes when it made it to American TV but it kind of bores me now.
Mosconi cup back for another year this time in Las Vegas at the Mirage. Europe already enjoying an early 4-0 lead over USA.

USA 0 EUROPE 5 after the first day (race to 11)
It was kind of embarrassing to watch yesterday. Even though they lost the first match, the Vegas crowd were super pumped and created a great atmosphere for the USA team.
Enter Earl Strickland in the doubles. He started off well and got the crowd even more riled up with "USA" "USA" chants ringing around the arena.
Earl then fails to make an easy shot - cue the meltdown...Europe went on to win the rack before Earl started yelling how lucky they got blah blah.... He ranted on and on - even when Euros were down on shots - claiming they didn't belong on the same table as him....The crowd turned silent and Earl was sat there like a demented old man in his piss stained pants hollering like an idiot...His playing partner looked like he wanted his chair to swallow him whole.
His antics definitely affected his team, while not a peep was heard from the crowd following the inevitable bloodbath that ensued. Plenty of them left long before the final singles match.
USA have lost 6 from the last 7 Mosconi cups and barring a large brown envelope, it will be 7 from 8.
Europe wins 11-2.
Didn't get to see as much of this I would have liked as was travelling, but USA never got going after falling 7-0 behind.
