The Jamie Gold poker room at the Trop

Is closed after being open for just about a month, they still have a poker room but Jamie Gold has been let go. I actually liked him a lot more after his interview on DD, but the Trop has never run a great room IMO.

Earlier today (March 15, 2012), Pokerati.com posted a report that the poker room at the Tropicana Las Vegas, known as the Jamie Gold Poker Room since last month, had silently ended its brand affiliation with the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event champion, citing the absence of Jamie Gold promotional material at the room. Pokerati.com also quoted a woman working in the poker room as saying that an upcoming poker training seminar by Jamie Gold had been “canceled.”

QuadJacks has obtained the following official statement by the Tropicana, attributed to John Fort, Director of Casino Operations, and Fred Harmon, VP of Talent & Image Relations.

“We have seen a few false assumptions posted regarding Jamie Gold. The Jamie Gold Poker Room is alive and well! It appears Jamie, not being at Tropicana Las Vegas every day, has sparked some assumptions that are just not true. Jamie is part of the Tropicana family and will be focusing on his seminars, including the one on March 24th, and bringing exciting poker events to the New Tropicana Las Vegas.”

Is the 'Jaime Gold Buffet' still open?

This isn't going to last. Jamie Gold is the opposite of reliable.

Jamie Gold probably comes pretty cheap, and a lot of people only remember his big 2006 win and not all of the drama that followed where he tried to cheat his partner out of $6 million.

Still, his absence is not a good sign, and I don't think Pokerati got this wrong. They probably let him go, and then changed their mind (perhaps after some promises by Jamie to be more present) and brought him back, and now are trying to engage in damage control from the report.

Played yellow chip (5-5 and 5-10 NL) with Jamie Gold a couple times at Hustler casino. He was very loose aggressive, fearless and was actually doing a pretty good job of controlling the table with his table talk. I think he actually has a pretty good game against the right table, namely loose donks that can be manipulated by his table talk into making bad plays.

Unfortunately, most of the tables at this limit today are filled with tight, passive nitty players and his game would just not work, as he is just too loose, especially with high rake at these tables.

Fool’s Gold: Jamie Gold Poker Room at Tropicana No More After One Month

In a blink of the eye, the much ballyhooed Jamie Gold Poker Room at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas is no more after only one month.

The poker room is still open. It’s just not called the “Jamie Gold Poker Room” and any association with the WSOP champ seems to have been erased.

Gold is the biggest winner of the World Series of Poker Main Event ever, having won in 2006. Ultimately he had to split the funds with a promoter as part of a settled lawsuit.

Gold promotional posters have since been replaced with March Madness promos.

The unceremonious close of Jamie Gold’s short-lived affiliation with the Tropicana poker room.

Less than one month after the “Official Grand Opening of the Jamie Gold Poker Room,” the relationship between the Tropicana and the 2006 WSOP main event champion has apparently ended — more quickly than it began. Though no word yet from either side about what prompted the abrupt change of course, posters of Jamie Gold, hands to the sky, and videos of him daring players to “catch me bluffing” are gone.

(But you can still see on YouTube what the plans were supposed to be.)

The Feb. 17-19 launch-party weekend included a Sunday afternoon “second chance” tourney that got canceled when only two players registered, and Gold himself showed up an hour after cards were supposed to have gone in the air. But the 2/5NL game (with David Williams and other pros) that sprung up in the Jamie Gold room looked to be growing successfully — running regularly on Wednesdays and Saturdays — as it was fast becoming known as the biggest 2/5NL games in Las Vegas, with reports of pots as big as $20,000.

Now the Gold promotional posters have been replaced by signs for a March Mania Mega Stack Poker Tournament, which starts today, March 15, and runs through March 25.

I stopped by the Tropicana room late Wednesday night/early Thursday morning to check out the 2/5NL game. For the past couple months, this was the game of Gold and friends.
I saw David Williams splashing around in the six-table room’s only game running, but couldn’t find Gold. The graveyard shift supervisor said he knew nothing about Gold’s status with the casino.

At the desk, I spotted a stack of fliers promoting a seminar with Gold, the only remaining evidence of his affiliation with the room. Gold promised to reveal “poker secrets the pros don’t want you to know!” In black marker, someone had scribbled “Mar 17,” or Saturday, St. Patrick’s Day. Imagine my luck.

I called the poker room Thursday afternoon, to get the exact time.

“I’m so sorry,” a woman replied. “I’m taking them down right now. They should not have been put out. It was canceled.”

    Tweet from Jamie Gold:
    15 Mar RealJamieGold @RealJamieGold
@AllenKessler @pokerati sorry but rumors not true @TropLV still my home in vegas and never planned on being full time after opening.

Yeah, it's pretty clear what's going on here.

He turned into a huge flake (shocker), so all promotions involving him have been canceled.

They probably figure they might as well keep him on as the "official" figurehead for the room until they have to pay him again. Obviously when you give Jamie money, you're not getting it back.

I wonder where he is now. Total grifter who caught the lightning one time, and even then fucked it up by screwing his partner.

I don't know high stakes, and I don't know big tourneys, but just from some multi year low level poker stuff, most of these people are total scum, and they pretend to like you if you're a whale.

There was a year or three there when winning the main event made you into a instant celeb.

How the game has fallen. Now its just bum hunting.

Wait, you’re saying Jamie Gold is flaky? Seems so out of character for him.

Yeah, what a flake. Realize there is at least one good book in you if you're a personality. Celebrity is far overrated. No training is involved.

Tim from down the street doesn't get the job because it takes someone unique to even be considered.
