Poker Player Chad Power Robbed of $1 Million

Felon jailed in theft of $1M in cash, chips from Henderson poker pro

    https://www.reviewjournal.com/crime/...r-pro-2357886/

Police were able to identify him only because he robbed another poker pro back in 2006.

    LOL.

You might remember Chad Power as the guy who used to back Cate Hall.

Yeah I'm sure Cate Hall is happy to hear this happened.

For those who forgot (or never knew), Chad was staking Cate at something like 5-10 NL, but decided to let her play in some big game where she swore she had an edge.

Cate lost $60k in the game. Rumors were that she was on something at the game and not playing well, but that's not really the issue. Chad had an agreement Cate signed which basically disallowed her from quitting as a stakehorse unless she either paid him the amount down, completely quit poker, or he voluntarily released her. She signed that agreement, and admitted this.

Shortly after that chunk-off, she quit poker, so Chad ate the loss and figured it was just a bad decision on his part to stake her in the first place. He was a bit bitter, however, believing that perhaps this was a freeroll, with Cate planning to quit poker if she lost big, but taking a nice profit if she won big.

Anyway, Cate returned to poker after like 6 months or whatever, and said she was off Chad's stake because she had "quit" before. Chad cried foul, and a big debate ensued as to who was the scumbag in this situation. I was mostly on Chad's side, especially because Cate's final action under him was playing unusually big, losing, and quitting.

Anyway... I always am surprised that there isn't more of this type of crime against poker pros, because they tend to carry/store a lot of cash and big casino chips, and rarely employ many security measures. The type of guys who will hold up a liquor store for a few hundred bucks would totally target guys like Chad if they were aware.

The police were able to identify the suspect because he removed his mask during the robbery, so cameras recorded his face.

The police searched files of criminals who robbed poker pros and found out this guy robbed a player of $15,000 back in 2006.

This guy paid cash for three cars which were under his mom’s name.

Note to poker pros: Get a safety deposit box in the casino or poker room, and maybe at a bank

A safe at your home is not safe.

The safe was seen on video as being carried on thief’s shoulder.

Man I’m not leaving $1 million in any safe a dude can carry on his shoulder. Why bother if someone can simply pick it up and open it wherever? Unless it has GPS unit or whatever, but even then, for cash and chips, that’s only going to help in apprehension. I couldn’t sit and comfortably play knowing I had a million in a safe some clown can walk away with unless the million was irrelevant money to me. You’re literally better off hiding it somewhere obscure. Once they are in house, a visible safe that can be carried away is worse than having it hidden in some obscure place that would take them hours to find. He had security alert. It’s like they walked in and said, “oh there’s the safe.”

If he had it hidden somewhere that would have taken them awhile to find, he probably is fine.

i'm assuming it was more cash than chips since he bought 3 cars and probably plenty of other things while the chips were mostly useless to him since he couldn't cash them

Not bright keeping that much money in his home. And the safe? Hell, Ted Binion got robbbed of 4 million dollars in silver coins kept in a bunker. Do you know how much 4 million dollars in silver coins weigh?

And not bright moving back and forth from residence to high stakes games without making sure no one is on your back trail. Its an easy thing to do.

Power was an easy mark. He's lucky to be alive. He set himself up to get killed.

Who else is surprised Chad Power has that much money? I don’t know much about him other than the Cate Hall incident and I’ve seen him posting some MMA Betting stuff on Twitter. Must be loaded to have a cool million sitting at home, or incredibly irresponsible or both
