Trying to get Galaxy Nexus III for free.. any help?

Okay here is situation. Phone owner has been with Verizon for approx 10 years. Has had same phone for at least 6 years. Was eligible for upgrade March 2009.


Tried to negotiate with Retention Dept to get a free Galaxy S III in exchange for a 2 yr contract. Amazon has the deal for 149( I realize the difference between the two companies).

Tried to play the loyalty card. Tried to remind that it has been 10 years with same company. Tried to tell them that I have a son and daughter that will sign up for at least 4 years since they are going away to college so we are talking about 3 customers/accounts, not 1.


My approach is to pound( no pun intended) the retention department until someone breaks down. I received a Samsung Infuse a month after it came out for free cause i signed a 2 yr contract. I realize that this phone just came out 2 weeks ago, but in 2 months its going to end up being half price.

Any tips on seasoned negotiators? I'm looking at you Druff. Please respond if you have proven approaches. Thanks.

The best thing that I can think of would be to go to an independent retailer not a corporate Verizon store. The sales people there have much more leeway with prices and are more likely to hook you up if it gets them a commission for extending your contract.

Also if you somehow find a used one make sure that the ESN is clean. Verizon has a reputation for being dicks about not turning on a phone that had a balance due on its account unless you pay the old account off.

Any sales people you deal with are getting no commission giving something away. They don't care about your loyalty, they are trying to make money off of you. I think your best bet is to ask for a supervisor, someone that is not as dependant on a commission. If you get that far maybe mention you have been talking to them for hours and hours about this. Guy may figure it is cheaper to give you the phone. If you fail here try going to his supervisor. Just keep going up the ladder as far as you can.

So a 42 dollar plan becomes 80 dollars AND I have to pay 150 for the phone. Not to mention they going to charge 30 dollars for "activation fee". Retarded.
