So I have an upcoming Alaska Airlines flight that I'm obv not going on. Despite them claiming they're "waiving cancelation fees", they're only offering me a flight credit for a future flight, which expires in 11 months. They won't refund my flights to my credit card. WTF

Haven't read the rest of the thread yet so forgive me if this has been pointed out already but there was a point in the outbreak in China & Italy & almost every other place that was hit hard before the USA where there was not a shortage of beds or ventilation machines.
Suddenly there was though. If the amount of new cases far outpaces the number of people who recover & no longer require hospitalization there will come a point where there is a shortage. It's just how math works & you'd think people posting on a poker forum who presumably play poker would understand basic math.

Yes, you're absolutely 100% correct. Every year, hospitals get overrun with flu patients and it's absolute mayhem. Many people don't know this, but there isn't a vaccine for the typical "flu" that we get every year, just like the 'rona. It's always super difficult to even get tested for the typical flu -- again, another similarity to the 'rona. Relatively healthy people also die all the time from the flu. I know one person who has the 'rona and he said it is the worst flu/disease/tiredness/difficulty breathing/etc. that he's ever had from the flu -- again, very similar to the typical flu, because that's what people say. I'm being totally totally serious here, definitely not sarcastic at all. Nope, not at all sarcastic.
The media is absolutely to blame for this. You see, in order to take down Trump, they had to concoct this crazy "pandemic" theory. Now countries all over the world are affected by it. Northern Italy is doing super great right now. They're thriving better than ever. All of Europe, for that matter, is doing just phenomenally. New York and New Jersey are definitely not anywhere near "total lock down" right now. Not many people know this, but Las Vegas is doing great right now -- casinos are totally open, absolutely! We also all know that MGM and Venetian stated they'd be closing down before being forced to by Nevada, as did a few casinos in California (Cache Creek, Pechanga, and Harrahs Rincon) without force, because that's totalllyyyyy normal for casinos to do. Casinos just LOOOOVE closing up shop. The casino industry, of all industries, cares about people first and definitely don't care about their bottom line first and foremost. Remember the last time casinos closed just for funsies? I'm not even going to bother naming all the times, there are just so many!!!

Is the flight cancelled? If it is, you have a legal right to a refund. They can't force you to take a credit. The credit only comes into play when you choose not to go on the flight, and this is kind of a concerssion.
The problem, of course, is that many people don't want a credit, because their reason to fly is no longer. (For example, if Vegas is closed, you don't want to go there.)
Unfortunately these are blanket policies and there's a 0.0 percent chance you can call them and talk your way out of this.
I will defer to your proximity to the epicenter as compared to mine, but these provincial governments are part of the layered structure of government that generally allows the Chinese Communist Party to control just about everything. That the provincial government attempted to hide the virus outbreak is logical behavior since they rightly expected to be scapegoated by the national government and the CCP for the outbreak. The national government and the CCP does not get to skate because they set up a system that results in this kind of desperate behavior by the provincials anxious to save their positions and avoid possible incarceration and even execution.
