I think is probably the favorite.

With the tech industry and favorable business climate.

It also has access to the working population and rapidly growing infrastructure to support Amazon HQ2.

One of the 3 or 4 best Computer Science schools in the country, recently redeveloped downtown, and cost living that is more in check than many of it's competitors just a bit further to the East.

Well, it's possible they build a 2nd HQ there.

The main problem with Austin is the transit there still sucks, even if they’re trying to improve. Also, the airport would need to be seriously expanded. And being in a red state could clash with some of their values, even if Austin is super liberal.

I can see Boston being the favorite. The biggest downside would be cost of living.

And I like Pittsburgh as a dark horse

    All of plus:

housing prices are still laughably low despite consistent growth.

NYC tech worker wages have not, by and large, scaled properly and there is a huge opportunity to poach talent here.

tons of tech innovation taking place, eg PGH is one of a very short list of cities where automated driving systems are being tested in the wild.

Atlanta would be my second pick because of the network infrastructure but honestly I just cant see techies being like "OH SHIT SEE YOU IN THE TRAP" while they pack their bags to relocate there.

Austin might well TID as well but the hype about Austin's tech potential seems to fall well short of the realities so far.

I'd be pretty amazed if they chose someplace other than Austin / Atlanta / PGH tho.

    Lock it up.

PLOL strikes me as having a favorable view of collusion. Suggest an insurance pick - I'll post and we will chop 70 to you & 30 to me.

Id be very surprised to hear Boston take it because the only reason I work for who I work for is they exhausted all the local talent in Boston years ago.

Plus traffic, housing costs, that fucking winter... Boston would surprise me.

Baltimore, MD. They are already expanding left and right around here.

LOL at it not being a port city where goods can be shipped right to the fucking warehouse pretty much. Austin? Atlanta? Yeah fucking right.

2nd and 3rd choices NY and Boston.

The East coast runs the fucking world, get with the program.

    https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....516043504_.pdf

Over 50 cities are expected to submit a proposal. Proposals are due by October 19th. A short list is expected to be announced by the end of the year with the winning proposal announced early 2018.

Contest rules: Pretty simple. Predict which city will land HQ2. You may only chose 1 city and you may not chose a city that has already by picked. If you post a city that has already been posted, you’ll have to repick or be ineligible. Also, you cannot change your pick. Once you post your pick, you’re locked in.

Prize: $50 (back). Can pay through Venmo, PayPal, cash in envelope, or Firecoin

People who are not eligible: Unfortinately there are a few select members of this forum who I deem will not be eligible for this contest, mostly scammers and other unscrupulous members. They are: Anybody with fewer than 99 posts as of today, Mumbles, Bryan Micon, TheSparten, Jasep, 4Dragons, and OSA. I regret to inform these members that there is no appeals process.

Contest deadline is whenever Amazon makes the final selection. Yes, you can wait for the short list to be official, but by then all the cities may already be picked.

So you think Amazon ships goods to/from their campuses, is what I'm reading here?
