Berlin artist seeks to create clothing to defeat casino facial recognition

    http://www.rawstory.com/2017/01/thes...lly-invisible/

The basics: Adam Harvey of Berlin is attempting to create clothing which confuses casino facial recognition software. The idea is to create patterns on the clothing which are also confused as faces, so the software gets overwhelmed and can't figure out where the faces begin and the clothing ends. Because it's a computer doing the work and not a human, the computer does not have the ability to reason out that it's being tricked. Casino facial recognition is used in order to identify advantage players -- especially ones already banned from that casino or from other casinos in the area.

Here is what he's come up with so far:

As khalwat pointed out on radio last night, if these become popular enough, designers of the surveillance systems can simply modify the algorithm and beat these shirts.

what does gaming the law have to do with anything? if you wear the shirt and commit a crime, you are still on video. it doesn't destroy the entire system, it just stops automatic facial recognition.

London in particular relies upon facial rec in the city big time. Having hoodlums run around and beating these cameras is not a great thought should it actually work that is.

Why in the world would anyone want a criminal to have an upper hand on being recognized or caught.

very interesting. At some point given the recognition software and proliferation of cameras everywhere when do people start wearing masks of some kind. It may start with headsets, google glasses etc. but at some point you will want to cover up to make it harder to track your every move.
