Mike Sexton in!
If people like JRB and Viffer are getting backed wouldn't somebody want to put in Ivey, Negreanu etc.?
I don't know how Viffer plays anymore but why on Earth would anybody back JRB of all people?
I'll be surprised if they don't open it up for more players after the cap is filled as obv it seems like such a marketing ploy to get people to lock in their place to boost a prize pool for sure as poker players don't prepare and are notorious for showing up the day minutes before the start or register late,etc..
I'd still expect a good chance players who are not signed up so far such as Ivey, Hastings, and Blom would play.
Someone stake Brad Booth, Chino Rheem, TJ Cloutier, and Eric Lindgren ftw.
I was listening to the WSOP stream the other night (Monday) and Doc Sands was on. He said that he placed his deposit that day and he was the 18th person to register and only 12 of those had paid the deposit so far. I was suprised by his comments since everything I have heard is that the cap was close to being hit.
imo Guy's motives are are less about ''one drop'' charity and more to with staging the greatest poker even the world will ever likely see...much like he promotes cirque du soleil franchises. Its in his interest to have an eclectic mix of poker players, even if he has to bank roll them
he can easily donate millions of dollars on the dl if really wants to be a philanthropist, but that wouldnt bring as much positive pr that he is currently receiving. Remember he was/is in damage control over the prostitution/sex party scandals
Who cares about donks like Ivey or Hellmuth, we all know Finn is going to take this down.
JENS KYLLÖNEN Finnish Professional Poker Player
Haralabob Voulgaris in now for the Lotto Quebec player. Probably sold it for a good chunk of change and got a piece.
The article also claims that Guy Laliberte spent $35 million promoting One Drop.
It doesn't go into detail.
I wonder if part of that $35 million (or a large part of it) went toward backing pro poker players for the tournament. I mean, it's pretty clear he's backing people, but is he backing the vast majority of poker pros in that field? I am guessing the answer is yes.
