CNN just done a piece on Bannon by playing clips of radio interviews he's done in the last couple years.... He is all about the hate.
There can't be any doubt on his ambition for a religious war.
Also believes American media and government has been infiltrated from within by muslims whose ultimate goal is Sharia Law.
These are not panel based opinions on Bannon. Those are the actual words coming outa his fat poisonous mouth.

Paradigm shift much??
The majority of rural community's are starting to be populated with kids of closed minded zealots, kids that grew up watching and digesting the tolerant views that were crammed into their brains by most of the teenage demographic programming of that time. These kids are now adults and there views differ slightly to vastly from their parents. Mainly their parents views on gay people, you'll find that even in rural country communities the tolerance for gay people is no different then any "progressive" community. Im not saying its perfect but what is.
If this trend continues, along with white people in rural areas becoming more accepting of minorities and their common goals as Americans, then the Democrats are all but done.
Since 2012 the Democrats have lost over 1000 seats in multiple state legislatures and counting.
The Republicans have become a loose coalition of people who have different ideologies with one thing in common, America first.
RIP Democrats
you are so right about a significant change...the regular Republicans all fell to Trump and his populism in the primaries
Trump brought organized labor to the Republican Party...Organized labor has always been for restricted immigration and protection of domestic industry--that is where there membership is...Republican have traditionally been anti-labor & pro free trade
so Trump going protectionist/closed borders moved labor from the Democrats to the Republicans...
the result is the parties have changed significantly, a change on the magnitude of the South going Republican after the 1960's civil rights act...
the parties will reform, the structure of the American election system pretty much dictates no more than two parties can exist...

The only way those workers are getting their old jobs back is if we bring back Ned Ludd, destroy all of the robots, and make it illegal to build new ones.
Hundreds of thousands of Chinese manufacturing jobs are going to be replaced by robots this year.
When Obama tried to have an adult discussion about this issue, the idiots on Fox News screamed that he was "giving up on white working class people". And then the same idiots screamed about how Obama was racially divisive.
This is what a car factory looks like now. Not because of unions or trade deals or any other bullshit you want to blame it on. This factory just makes cheaper, better cars than the one it replaced, which employed 5 times as many people.

Bad news on that front. Trump was apparently serious about wanting to get rid of the Johnson Amendment, which forbids tax exempt churches from directly engaging in political activities and endorsing candidates.
It's actually not a huge deal, because churches have been blatantly breaking the rules for a long time. Obama let the Mormons do horrible shit fighting against gay marriage and legal pot ballot initiatives.

point well taken Barry...there are capital/technology intensive industries (auto assembly, chemicals. textiles) and there are labor intensive ones (clothing, furniture manufacture, jewelry)...letting China, a country with a lot of land and under-used population into the WTO in 2001, resulted in a rapid exit of jobs from America...if instead of China, a small country such as Vietnam were let in, in a short time Vietnam reaches full employment, their wage rise and become comparable to the US and there is no rapid loss of US jobs...instead the loss is gradual and the excess capacity in the US can be retrained, work off without widespread blight on traditional areas of manufacturing...that was the mistake made, allowing rapid restructuring
the result, political strife...now is a period as divisive in America as 1965-1971
but i can't accept just blowing off Americans put out of work by the miscalculations of economist/politicians;
new industries will have to be created, people will be put back to work, and foreign competition/labor will have to be be shut out for a while

LoL those kids would be my parents generation. the same ones who have brought us to the brink of insanity we have now. How pissed off were they? Drugs are still illegal. We're still at war and have been since then. Sure, I run into a defense attorney now and then who's of that age (or older) who seems to be pretty liberal, but for the most part, these offices I go into, offices that are owned and operated by that generation who were inspired to become lawyers, are pretty fucking conservative, and pieces of shit. Most aren't even doing criminal law anymore. That takes a toll on you.
that generation got tired long ago of fighting. It's my generation's lawyers who are now having to clean up the mess.
beautifully written post. I also enjoy the chaos, but when I see the makings of something worse than a little bit of chaos and havoc, I have to be a little bit worried. Surely, deep down San, you are too?

Re Druff's support of Trump's immigration ban "in principle" even if he disagrees with some details and its implementation:
Druff, here's a reminder of when the US government did a similar ban.
As I look over your exchange with Grenade Man again, I'm going to call foul on your example for another reason: The type of democracy you put up as an example arbitrarily allowed a plurality of the passengers who *could* have voted to determine who the leader was provided he received a majority of the votes cast. By your logic, such a democracy could allow the con artist to be chosen to pilot the plane even if only 3% voted for him provided that 95% of the passengers didn't vote. Well-functioning democracies don't have such chaos-inducing voting rules.
And let's not forget something: The alternative (rule by a non-democratic government) is worse. Unless, of course, you would *prefer* the US adopt *another* type of government?
New industries are being created. One thing they all have in common is that they involve tons of computers and/or robots, and a small handful of highly educated people.
One of those is the autonomous vehicle industry. It's going to put millions of people out of work in the very near future. Instead of doing any preparation for this massive shift, Trump is telling the people who are about to get fucked that he's going to take care of them, and largely won their vote because of it.
