About 10 years ago I had just filed for divorce, was a full time single dad, owned a business that required about 80 hours a week. My life was completely upside down and I was pretty down.

A friend calls me and tells me that his wife is going to watch our kids and that we are to going to "throw down a few". I stand up and literally hold my cards in the air facing away from the table and declare I call. I was literally holding my cards in the air or anyone else in the card room could see them except for the players at my table standing there for at least 10 to 15 seconds

Then the guy to my left literally folded with only about $15 behind because he knew he was completely owned

From my experience, standing up *and* lifting cards to show someone behind is usually a huge tell that signals a very strong hand.

But I've used showing my cards to a player sitting next to me to aid in bluffing an opponent across the table when he was taking a long time to decide whether to call my river bluff (with complete air). I just had to be careful to lift the cards and flash them to my neighbor long enough when I knew my opponent was looking at me for a tell. I gave the false tell, my opponent was a bit startled by it, and reluctantly folded almost immediately, while saying something about the river helping me out, and how I sucked out in him. It was sweet.
