I have never had any personal issues with Jack or Ty. I still don't. Just want things to get better at @wsop so I look fwd to coming back.

Jack is notorious for blocking anyone who slightly criticizes him or the WSOP. I am blocked, as is Brandon, despite the fact that we have always addressed Jack professionally and respectfully.

The worst part of this is the fact that the @WSOPTD account (the one where so many are blocked) is an official WSOP twitter, and players are informed to use this to inform Jack about urgent matters at the WSOP. Yet he blocks people from that account for the slightest constructive criticism.

Weak.

Who would hire these guys? Seriously some of the most unprofessional assholes I've ever seen. I think you mentioned this and I mentioned this in another thread: With Bluff going bye bye unless the WSOP does something quick with Kevmath, they're fucked in the coming years. There were at least 2 times where I had questions about locations or events that I got multiple different answers that were all wrong and a quick tweet to kevmath got me the right response within 2 minutes.

Believe it or not, Kevmath did all of this voluntarily and was not paid.

His job at BLUFF was not related to the great help he provided to WSOP players.

It's a closed network of friends at every casino. It's the largest employer in the area and yet a 'small community'. They inter-marry, they all go to the same parties, golf together.. you get the drift. But yeah, the worst use of social media in recent history that I can think of.

Just a reminder this is a Caesars operation and failure is what they do best. The future of WSOP , of course, will also be impacted by the bankruptcy. All kinds of unexpected consequences.

There is no guarantee it will remain the franchise we grew up knowing. Time marches on and fashions change.

Right, but he is at the WSOP because of his job at BLUFF correct? It wasn't his job to do the WSOP's job, but he was doing other jobs there.

You know what would be interesting, and I think is also likely, is if Amaya Gaming swoops in the next couple years and purchases the WSOP brand. A pokerstars WSOP would be interesting, I know Daniel Negreanu would probably throw up in his mouth because he absolutely hates the way poker stars runs their events. Another interesting side effect would be that Amaya would then also own wsop.com poker unless Caesars somehow negotiated to maintain the rights to the online gaming platform.

It's almost too obvious so I don't know. It will change. That I do know.

The "lobbying" partnership between PokerStars & Caesars is just the beginning of that particular relationship. Of course, they will jointly explore other opportunities as they arise. Except Baasov & company are strong & Caesars is weak. Lobbying partnership my ass. Amaya is doing recon. prior to the auction.

Ty Stewart is the boss. He's a nice guy in my experience, perhaps to a fault. Maybe that's why he tolerates all these embarrassing PR blunders from Palansky and Effel.

There are 3 bigwigs at the WSOP.

Ty Stewart is on top, and both Jack Effel and Seth Palansky are under him, though Jack has more power at the WSOP itself.

Seth is involved with both WSOP and WSOP.com, while Jack concentrates on just the WSOP.

All three of them seem fairly close, and I believe they are all ingrained at their jobs, even with their flaws and mistakes.

The WSOP is part of Caesars Interactive Entertainment, which is currently headed by Mitch Garber. However, Garber does not get involved in day-to-day operation issues. He is more concerned the the macro picture of whether the WSOP is generating proper revenue. Mitch isn't going to care if Jack is blocking people on Twitter, if the playing cards are poorly designed, or if one of these guys is nasty on social media. Barring some huge controversy which could become a national news story (which is unlikely to happen), Garber basically steps back, lets them handle things, and as long as the WSOP posts decent numbers, he's happy.

None of these 3 WSOP managers are good at social media. Seth and Ty have tempers, and Jack is passive-aggressive and blocks people for the slightest criticism. Strangely enough, Seth IS good at his main task, which involves communications and publicity for the WSOP brand. Not only does Seth do that job effectively, but he's very accessible. Whenever I have a question for him, I get a surprisingly detailed answer. He just needs to stay off of the WSOP public Twitter accounts. Ty also has a short fuse and can put his foot in his mouth in social media. Jack simply ignores or blocks you. He's actually the worst of the three at social media, because at least Seth and Ty are responsive (especially Seth).

The solution is pretty much staring them in the face, but for whatever reason, they don't implement it.

They need to hire a fourth-in-command WSOP person, whose strengths involve social media and customer service. That person should operate the WSOP Twitter accounts, and then filter the appropriate concerns/information to the right people above him, while ignoring the silly BS. I'm not saying they need some monkey who acts as a social media gatekeeper, but rather someone who can separate the real concerns from the bullshit, stroke off the people complaining and make them feel appreciated, and then bring the real problems to Seth/Jack/Ty. It needs to be someone who doesn't have a temper (or at least is good at suppressing it), and who is willing to check their ego at the door when taking these complaints.

A players' committee would also be a good idea. They had one of these before, but it was mostly useless because it primarily involved name pros who didn't really give a shit. But stack it with guys like Matt Glantz, Jesse Martin, or (gasp) even someone like me, and a lot of these fails we see every year would not occur in the first place.

Right now the WSOP's two biggest needs are a logistician and social media manager. The existing team believes they can handle logistics and social media on their own, and each year we see mind-boggling mistakes and customer service failures which shouldn't be occurring. It's okay to admit that you're not good at everything. I'm not good at everything, either. That's the reason you hire people with expertise in the areas where you lack. Then you can concentrate on the areas where you're actually strong and the job you were hired to do.

Maybe one day the WSOP will learn this model.

knowing that, it's amazing to me that effel still has a job

what a fucking clown. i was under the impression he got away with being very, very bad at his job because he was in charge and didn't have to answer to anyone
